[Kansas City.com] Chiefs quarterback Damon Huard was moved to the injured reserve Wednesday and will not play again this season.

Huard suffered an injury to his right thumb in the first half of Sunday’s 34-10 loss to Tennessee.

Brodie Croyle also was moved to the IR.

Tyler Thigpen will start Sunday at the Jets, and Ingle Martin will be the backup. Newly signed quarterback Quinn Gray will be the third passer.

    4. wow………this is almost like work. they sure dont make being a chiefs fan easy anymore. our best qb is our third string. oh well. makes for a great april, and at least the other 2 scrubs are gone.

    6. I hate to see this happen to Huard…When Green went out with his injury a few years ago Huard did a phenomenal job carrying the load in his absence. How did we repay him? Gave Green his starting spot back, didn’t make him earn it. We even made it to the playoffs which one could say, Thanks to Huard for stepping up. Then in the playoffs Green was obviously struggling and we didn’t even give him a chance. Then the following year we made him work for the starting spot, didn’t give it to him like we did Green. He won, of course, and then was easily replaced Mid season, starting a 12 game losing skid…I guess i just hate to see bad things happen to good players. Not that he is the best option at QB but he gave it his all when he needed to and helped this team out. Thanks for your efforts Huard. They were not over looked here.

    7. FatDaNn, well put indeed, thank you! Damon Huard, best of luck to you after this season. Thank you so much for marching us towards our playoff appearance in 2006 against the (damn) Colts (who we probably would’ve beat, therefore keeping the Colts from going on to win The Super Bowl only if you would’ve started or at least came in at halftime), it was a damn good run that season, thanks again!

I’m so sorry for us Chiefs fans snd for those inside the organization! This season is so bazarre, it gets more dramatic every stinkin’ week/DAY!! You couldn’t even make this stuff up, it’s un-real! It’s a long time between now and next August…it’s almost painful struggling through the spring and summer without our Chiefs football, but we’re going to have to suffer through the rest of this season AND through the rest of the damn year, as usual, too! This is so hard!!! I’m going to keep watching, and keep listening, because I want to see some glimpses of goodness from time to time. I need something to cling to!! GO CHIEFS, HANG IN THERE!! KC IS STILL THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO SEE AN NFL GAME!! WE LOVE OUR GUYS IN RED!! GO CHIEFS!!

    9. Our best QB is not our third stringer. Our best QB is not on the team and doesnt exist. To give Thigpen such credit is beyond insane. I can see Gradkowski being signed as well now. I hope Quinn Gray comes in and tears it up and shows the league what they were missing out on, that would be sweet.

    10. Huard ain’t stupid…. he’s getting the hell out before he literally gets killed by the shitty o-line they put in front of him, it all starts up front folks……. until that’s fixed, I don’t give a shit who is QB, wouldn’t make much, if any difference when you have a LB in your face the instant you get the damn ball.

    12. Dan, for one thing you don’t lose your starting position because of an injury. Trent Green was the best qb by far throwing for over 4000 yards almost every year so I have a hard time understanding why we should have given Huard the starting position when he wouldn’t have been there but for the injury.

    13. The resemblance between Tyler Thigpen and Rich Gannon is uncanny! Really, have you taken a second to look; it’s just crazy!! Could this be some weird ‘deja-vu’ kinda deal…remember, Grbac, selecting the wrong one…it’s kinda freaky guys, I’m just sayin… Everytime I look at him, I have to do a double take. Seriously, it’s uncanny…

PS Yes, buttholes, I do remember the Atlanta game, so don’t say anything about how he sucks…I’m not talking about that!! And if ya did, I would have to throw in how sweet-ass it was for him to get some shiz-nit going at the end of the game last week for us! Can’t deny that, he was like a firecracker going crazy! (Just like Gannon used to do for us when Bono was out) I wish this game was at home Sunday so that Thigpen could start at home instead of on the road again.

We shall see who gets the job for the Bucs game at home next Sunday…

    17. vermile would have never let his offense get this bad despit that the d is sorta ok but that means shit with a coach like herm (lets fire him ) because a bunch of little leagures can do a better job

      Comment by Brett — October 23, 2008 @ 12:35 pm

    18. Just look at this as an investment opportunity. The Chiefs won their one game this year so the rest of the year can be used to make money by betting against the spread. Does anyone think Thigpen will win one game this year? I thought so…

      Comment by Jeff — October 23, 2008 @ 1:14 pm

    19. I just don’t see a QB in college who is worth a first rounder. Is there anyone in the CFL that can pass or arena league? I feel like we are the little Giants and we had our one big game. CRAP

    20. I am sad to see Huard go down like this. He was a great back up in 06, and he was our best QB on the roster this year. He was not suppossed to be our starter ever, when he came in, he did his job well. Thanks for beating some Donkey ass this year Damon! Brodie good luck somewhere else.

    22. ………………Michael Vick, I will repeat that once again Michael Vick. The 2008 season is officially over for the Chiefs, and I hate to say it but there really is no college QB that I believe could step in and make a difference.
All of the top rated QB’s in this years draft are either to f’n small or do not play NFL style offenses. The only one that I have heard anything about being tough enough for the NFL is Chase Daniels backup! you heard that right. Chase Patton is a big strong dude, kinda reminds me of Roethlisberger but do you really wanna go through more learning?
Sign Michael Vick, he may be shady and doesn’t throw for the most yards but with him under center no one could defend the run. Think about it… jamaal charles and kolby smith who can run……and Vick. I rest my case.
I would love to throw one more piece of news out there for Mr. CHFSFAN, Vicks lawyers went to court yesterday in Va. about his pending charges and it looks like VA is gonna give him time served for his federal charges, so like I said he will be back very soon, not another 10 month term like you so enjoyed pointing out.

    23. I wonder if all your nasty comments has got anything done yet. You guy’s fuck me up. We got a young red coater trying to come in and do his best with what he’s got(no line, Gonzo & Bowe , LJsmackers no D to help him out) And you piss on him like he’s shit. At least he’s played in a game and has not got hurt,,,,,,Yet Now if you have high expectations for the chiefs this year then I say, Ba HA!
So support our players as you say you do and give the pig a chance to play a full game before you roast him like the tail end engine of the JETS are probably going to sunday.

Peace out DH, Thanks for the help, Tell colquit he needs to fake some injury for IR before he gets hurt too…

    24. I happen to agree that Thigpen has the tools to be successful, and the comparison to Gannon is relevant. The difference is that Gannon came in as a veteran with time elsewhere. Thigpen needs another year on the sideline to let the game slow down for him. It doesn’t do him anygood to be rushed by the lack of a quality line either.

The biggest difference in the teams over the last 5-6 years is that the team doesn’t play with a lot of heart. Sure, there are times when they appear juiced, but many more when they don’t. That was what made the Chiefs so endearing to me growing up. Quality people who tried their ass off every Sunday. Funny thing is those guys played .500 football. We never had guys being arrested or suspended. Players respected the game, respected the coaches, respected the fans, and respected themselves. You may not have liked “Marty-ball”, but I happen to miss the teams that he brought on the field, and the community.

Obviously some of the players play with heart and passion and it is a shame that it goes for not. Thanks for your continued efforts Tony G, Brian W, Donnie E, Derrick J. I am sure a few others need credit that I am forgetting.

    25. Being able to run around and throw a ball 80 yards doesn’t make a good quarterback. Especially a 30 year old with questionable ethics and morals. We would have much better luck (theoretically!) using our high draft pick that we are sure to get on a quarterback from a tough conference that is battle tested. Look around the SEC and Big 12 and there are 5-6 QB’s that we should have our eyes on. Then use the rest on O lineman. Maybe we could get a 1st and a 2nd out of LJ this offseason.

    27. This is sad if you think about it. Our beloved team has gotten so bad that we’re fighting amongst ourselves. Can’t we just focus on the fact that the Chiefs personnel people have let the team down, let themselves down, let the fans down, and worst of all: let the late Lamar Hunt down.

    28. NCCHIEFSFAN,

The Chiefs will not go after Vick. He is not a young player and he hasn’t played football in a while. He’d be a waste. Get real.

    30. That’s exactly why we should go after him what the hell has getting young players gotten us? Jeff have you seen the abortion that is this team? Rebuilding is not supposed to look like this.
Free agents and veterans exist for a reason, think about this team, we pretty much need an entire o-line, are we gonna be able to do that this year? no, can we do it through the draft next year, no. What could we do to take the pressure off? hmmmmmmmm……… Get a quarterback that can run, and try like hell to pick up a pro-bowl lineman for him. If Vick even has a little bit of time his very few weapons will actually be able to contribute, plus I’ve said it before having Vick under center completely changes the running game.

    31. Clark Hunt is the worst owner in the NFL at least the raiders the lions the 49ers and the rams have already made changes to there staffs. When is this ASSHOLE going to do whats right for Chief fans and fire Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards.

      Comment by Chris — October 24, 2008 @ 8:26 pm

    32. NCCHIEFSFAN,

yes, I’ve seen every game. This is precisely what rebuilding looks like. But you’re right, the Chiefs won’t get an entire new line in the draft. As for Vick the Prick, he’s entirely over-rated, he’s a thug, and quite frankly would be a waste of time for the Chiefs.

Chris, clark gave an interview just a couple of weeks ago re-affirming his committment to Carl and Herm. Don’t expect a move until the end of the season, if even then.

    33. Bob Gretz did a shockingly good article about Ingle Martin this morning on http://www.bobgretz.com. Check it out…”Saturday Morning Cup O’ Chiefs.” I say throw this guy in there Sunday…we know what Tyler can do…NOTHING!!! I say we see what kinda guts this kids got! Chiefs 17 Jets 10. Go Chiefs!!!

I am not sure I understand your obsession with Michael Vick. He his a great athlete, but do we really need MORE baggage? He just plead guilty to more state charges, meaning he may have more time facing him anyway. Not to mention that by this time there are probably QB’s on the market with similar talents and are probably more accurate, especially with a draft class QB heavy. I have always enjoyed watching him play, but after seeing what he is capable of, I won’t cheer for him again. I hope he has seen the error in his ways and changed his way of thinking.

The ability to scramble is a necessity right now for our team, but you aren’t going to win games when your qb is running for his life every play. Until we have solid o line play we are not going to be very successful.

What really worries me on a moral standpoint, is what things has he done or been involved in that were not discovered.

      Comment by Travis — October 25, 2008 @ 10:32 am

    35. Mike Vick is overated. He was to quick to leave the pocket. Right now we need a scrambling QB, but it is not the ideal QB. We need to use all but 1 (QB first pick) our draft picks on O-Line help, and pick up some linebackers in free agency.

When you have a good O-Line you can have a pocket passer. A pocket passer is the best kind of QB. Examples include- Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer
