Chiefs Thin at Running Back

[Kansas City.com] Running back Kolby Smith is lost for the season after he injured a knee in the second quarter against Tampa Bay. Given Larry Johnson’s suspension, that leaves the Chiefs with Jamaal Charles, Dantrell Savage and Jackie Battle at running back for next Sunday’s game against the Chargers in San Diego.

Battle, who played for the Chiefs late last season, was promoted from the practice squad for Sunday’s game, but he didn’t get the ball.

    2. Jamaal Charles reminds me of Priest Holmes. If he can fill out a lil bit in size… Wouldn’t that be sweet…2 TU running backs making a hardcore statement for the Red n Gold!!! Cmon J.C., let’s see what you are made of!!!

    4. Thin at running back?!?!? Are you kidding me???? Charles, Savage, and Battle. Most teams would kill to be in this situation. I’m concerned for San Diego, I really am. 100% of game prep time this week will be devoted to stopping this three prong attack. Good Luck in stopping that trifecta. It wouldn’t suprise me if they combined for 250-300 rushing yard. No but seriosly Charles has some good potential from what I can tell.

    5. I have been saying to all the Die Hard Chiefs nation since he was drafted out of Texas and when I watched him in college play against K-State in 2006 Jamal looked like a Beast then and I knew KC was blessed for the future when we got him!!!! I was at the Bucs and Chiefs game yesterday and it was harder to see my wife and 3 kids get into it and to be let down. Well I told my 13 year old son I have been a Chiefs Fan for the past 19 years I am use to it LOL!! It is clearly Time for a change in America and it is time for a change in Kansas City as well. Out with Bush and in K.C. out with King Carl!!!

I HATE TU!!! haha anyways i like JC ALOT i was very impressed when i saw him destroy nebraska last year and i was extremely happy when the chiefs drafted him the one thing i dont like about charles is that sometimes he shys away from hits (although he did fu*k up Aj Hawk in college when Hawk intercepted a pass) he’s very young so once he gets bigger and stronger hopefully he won’t shy away as much but JC reminds me of BARRY SANDERS short and very shifty lots of jicky jack charles just needs strong legs like sanders and he’ll be a damn nice back to have

    11. We are thinner at linebacker than runningback. We need to draft linebacker on the first day of the draft this year. Expecting DJ to run the field is askng too much need to put talent next to him if we will ever have a respectful Defense again.

    12. Mike41…I hate TU too…MU fan here…but Texas seems to produce some top notch running backs and it looks like Jaamal will continue the tradition…as long as he can stay healthy!

    13. The chargers defense is terrible right now, and all three of those running backs have homerun capability because of their speed. Chiefs should win if Herm doesn’t manage to blow this one also. Are the coaches trying to make us lose?

      Comment by Nathan — November 4, 2008 @ 11:20 am

    14. I am hoping for the best against SD this weekend. And I seriously feel that the Chiefs can pull it off, but like Nathan mentioned…. I too have this gnawing feeling that regardless of how the Chiefs play, Herm will manage to handicap the team with his adjustments so we lose by a field goal at the end.

    15. Jackie Battle has the ability to be the pounder if he ever sees the field.I do agree we need a linebacker before a runningback.DJ is the only LB worth keeping.

    16. The problem will arise when LJ comes back. Herm will put him back in as starter even if the other guys have been doing well. Then we will be back to 50yard rushing games. LJ cannot run without a good Oline, JC can run with a so so line (and thats being nice to the line) and he can make cuts as well. But I can hope.

    17. When is LJ coming back to action?

    18. Demarrio Williams isn’t that bad of a linebacker but he was hurt against the Bucs. I could tell it made a difference. Donnie Edwards is old as f@#K and if we got a good one to fill in for him it would be nice. What we really need is an outside rusher with alot of speed to get to the quarterback. We need a “real” defensive end. By “real” I mean one with some size and speed speed and more speed. If we could have got any kind of pressure at all on the quarteback we would have beat the Bucs. As far as a running back, we need someone like Battle to ram it through the line. I remember he wasn’t afraid to pound it in between the tackles last year. LJ just runs into the lineman then tries to run it outside which usually ends up with a loss or no gain. I woudn’t ruin Charles and get him hurt by trying to pound the ball with him. He is to much of our future.
