[KC Chiefs.com] The NFL informed the Chiefs on Tuesday that CB Maurice Leggett has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 13 of the 2008 NFL regular season.

Leggett was a principle contributor in the Chiefs defeating AFC West rival Oakland 20-13 last Sunday. An undrafted rookie, Leggett contributed four special teams tackles in the contest with his biggest contribution occurring when he scooped up a fumble on a fake field goal attempt and raced for a 67-yard TD. The second-quarter play gave the Chiefs a 10-3 lead and proved to be a pivotal part of the Chiefs 20-13 victory in Oakland.

    1. I think we’re lucky to have found this guy.

    2. Still doesn’t seem like anything special right now, but i am glad he can contribute to our ST, we needed it.

    3. Jeff-
remember he was the one that blew that coverage that allowed the tying TD in the Tampa Bay game….so consider his effort this week a makeup for that game

    4. We are lucky to have found such a talented undrafted rookie like Leggett. Some teams drafted corners in 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds in the draft that aren’t as good as Leggett. However, to have him man to man with some of the leagues better receivers would be a major mismatch. But he is still good as a nickel back and he tackles well.

    5. Yeah he keeps playing like this and he could see himself in a starting role.

    9. Yeah we still suck but he should make UNSURTAIN get his walking papers. Another thing. I really think this guy has potential.

    10. I wish i would have been able to see the game.
Any young player willing to step up and fight for a job is what we need on this roster right now.
Teams are not made up of 53 superstars. So if one guy is stepping up his preformance then that can only be good.

    11. Leggett definitely has blown some coverages, but for being an undrafted rookie, i’m impressed. I really like the fact that him and flowers aren’t afraid to come up and make a solid tackle, which is essential in a cover 2 base. Let’s hope that our young and physical secondary can gel together and improve on our coverage skills. If so, we could have a good back end defense, that is as long as we can get a pube of a pass rush. The all-time greatest secondary couldn’t do shit if the qb had 10 seconds in the pocket.

    12. Your definately right about that lack of pass rush dbowe. I hear ya 100% percent. We somebody to make the quarterback feel like hes about to get his salad fully tossed.
