The one thing that I don't think people know about Herb is that he never played guard in college. He played right tackle for three years and left tackle in his senior year and both right and left tackle all through high school. The only thing that most tackles have on Herb is size but his tecniques are invaluable. If Herb was the size of Brandon Albert there would be no question as to who would be playing left tackle. Go back and look at the game where Herb went against Julius Peppers (JP got one sack and that's because Holdem' Huard did not step up in the pocket)but Herb held his ass all game. Herb is also very good on pulling plays. Right now I think he is around 305 and maybe he will gain a few more pounds to satisfy some people (we don't want him to get fat though where he is no longer fluid and can move quickly like some OT's we know)with as fast as these DE's are getting, big obese tackles are becoming obsolete. Hopefully he will get his fare shake with a starting role next season before he becomes a free agent and some other team snatches him up.

Herm Edwards is the George W. Bush of the NFL. After 19 Years of being a die hard Chiefs Fan If we Dont FIRE THE SHIT out of him then we are the most corrupt organization in the NFL. Which brings me to the Behind the scenes Man that somehow all slips our attention Mr. Carl Peterson who might just be the Devil himself. He needs to say goodbye to Kansas City FOREVER!!! After 20 years of being the GM I will admit he did a good job for about 8 years but after we lost 10-7 to the colts in 1995 should have been a sign of 13 more heartbreaking years. Loyality is one of the hardest things to be in the NFL these days but I have Faith that all our years of dedication will pay off. We have hit Rock Bottom as chiefs fans and if WE Don't see the end of King Carl and Herm the worm for 2009 I will take the season off so I dont have a heart attack at the young age of 30. I love the Chiefs but I am sick and tired of Carl and Herms Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding Herb's recent propensity for false starts, I look at a couple of mitigating circumstances. First, in practice he still takes most of his reps at LT. That changed after Andrew Carnahan was brought in--Carnahan takes a lot of scout team reps at LT, which frees up Taylor to work part time with the 1st string unit. In the process of getting shuffled around so much, I wonder if Herb has fallen out of practice in sighting the football. Second, notice that all of these false start penalties have come since Thigpen took over. I don't know what offense TCU ran when he was there, but this ostensibly could be his first experience working in a shotgun.

Regardless of whatever circumstances might be affecting his play, he still has to overcome. In terms of blocking ability there's no question that he's an NFL-ready player, but he can't have mental lapses. I fully expect that he'll resolve that little quirk by next year and hopefully take a starting job.

And J-Rock, 4-5 years is a long time in the NFL. If we can get a fully-developed lineman who gives us 4-5 years of high-level performance, we should go for it every time. That’s a lot more high-level years you get out of most draft picks.

Yeah 4-5 years is a long time. I just cant stop thinking about how most people thought that Highway 77 was going to be good but he ended up being garbage. I dont want us to take that chance again. I haven't seen a veteran free agent yet that Sperm has brought in and who productive. That's why I say develop them. As far as Herby, players are going to have jitters when they first get on the field. Correcting to false starts will come with experience. He as played 3 out of the 5 spots on the O-Line so I think a have a huge upside. Thats just my opinion.

I think Herb still has a lot to prove and needs dramatic improvement in discipline (false start king). But i'm hopeful like the rest of you. With more experience, he could be serviceable at RG or RT with some possible upside. Hopefully we'll get at least 2 new OL next year (1 draft, 1 FA), with one new starter and one quality backup/developmental player.

Kareem McKenzie is great but I hope we dont get him. He is 30 so that only means it will be a short term fix. About 4 or 5 years at best.
J Rock, I'm probably Herb Taylor's biggest proponent, but I don't see us moving Albert. Albert is our second best lineman (Waters is better, but Waters is strictly an interior man), and it's paramount to put our best players at the most difficult positions. Taylor is our 3rd best lineman right now, but he's not particularly big. I think he'd be fine at RT, but seeing him at RG has opened my eyes. He's roughly the same size as Jake Scott or Ryan Lilja, and unlike Adrian Jones he seems to be comfortable with immediate contact (tackles get an extra step or two before they lock up their man). Why not leave him there at RG? That would leave us with one spot to fill.... Any word as to whether or not the Giants will take LJ in trade for Kareem McKenzie?

Well, Nathan Kent, I am glad to see someone else saying what I have been saying for a long time, sh*tcan the Cover Two defense. It is woefully obvious that Gunther has never been comfortable with the Cover Two. A characteristic of Gunther's defenses has never been timidity, but this defense is downright timid. Simple blitzes (by the Chiefs) don't happen very often and when they do it is so predictable that the opposing quarterback merely dumps the ball to the hot receiver and the chase is on. Six sacks for the CHIEFS, FOR THE SEASON, THUS FAR!!!!!!!!!!! Is that pathetic or what? The new Chiefs owned record for least sacks by a defense in a sixteen game season, may not even be in double digits. Suppose we are lucky enough to have one sack per game for the next three games, that will mean the defense would finish with 9 sacks for the entire year. The offense and defense BOTH need a huge amount of work. I think the head coach needs to abandon his idiot philosophies if he wants to coach in this league. Lets score some points (a bunch) on offense and hammer them (no pun intended) on defense. Lets stop all this tiptoe through the tulips nonsense and play football.

Wow! That's a dream team in my opinion. That is one instance where I could easily predict a dramatic increase in wins.

I don't see any coaching changes though. I would welcome wise choices like your considerations, but I don't think we could pull off those miracles. Although this is the moment the team is supposed to make the turn. And these coaches are only worth the first three quarters. They can't coach the fourth quarter for shit. (You win games in the fourth quarter. To get to the fourth and win you have to minimize mistakes in the first three quarters.) You win by having the ball last with the lead in hand. These are Herm's football philosophies.

I don't see why we can't just put the pedal to the floor and open shit up. At least at home the next two weeks. I want to see downfield passing to anyone who can get there past the defenders. I believe Franklin and Charles both can.

We have a kicker who is perfect for his first seven starts as a rookie. Priefer's find of Connor Barth. If he finishes the season perfect as a rookie with 10 starts. Amazing addition to the team.

We have rookie corners who can play, we have twice as much talent as last year and we are one of the youngest and not going to be much older next, but will play with dramatically more experienced players.

It has been the rollar coaster we all new it would be up it all comes down to the last few games of the season to find out if the "the project" is working.

If we win the next three it would be a yard from finishing perfect, assuming we would have kicked the extra point if had Tyler scored. If we lose all three games by less than seven points I would assume we are going after someone important in April. If Tyler's number don't improve at least a little maybe not 70%, but at least getting 2 TD's a game, while limiting turnovers. I truly think he should be the starter next year. The only convincing I need is the showing of even more potential every week. He might not have had a great day in Denver, but if we would have scored there at the end Tyler would have been on the front page of the Kansas City Star for doing something that has never happened. Win at Invesco.

He is "The Man" for now and Now means next season and it has since the moment we gave Thigpen a True start on the road at the Jets. I was at the Jets game last year and I was sure we were not trying to win that game, but I got to see the Pats game the night before so it was still a fun New Years Trip. The chiefs team I saw at the Jets last year was a bunch of unprofessional athletes excluding the people who are on the team now.

Wow! That’s a dream team in my opinion. That is one instance where I could easily predict a dramatic increase in wins.

I don’t see any coaching changes though. I would welcome wise choices like your considerations, but I don’t think we could pull off those miracles. Although this is the moment the team is supposed to make the turn. And these coaches are only worth the first three quarters. They can’t coach the fourth quarter for shit. (You win games in the fourth quarter. To get to the fourth and win you have to minimize mistakes in the first three quarters.) You win by having the ball last with the lead in hand. These are Herm’s football philosophies.

I don’t see why we can’t just put the pedal to the floor and open shit up. At least at home the next two weeks. I want to see downfield passing to anyone who can get there past the defenders. I believe Franklin and Charles both can.

We have a kicker who is perfect for his first seven starts as a rookie. Priefer’s find of Connor Barth. If he finishes the season perfect as a rookie with 10 starts. Amazing addition to the team.

I want to talk about the "Rebuilding Project" for the coaching staff.
GM - Marty Schottenheimer
Head Coach - Bill Cowher
Off. Coord. - Chan Gailey
Quarterbacks - Brian Schottenheimer (He would like to be part of the "family reunion")
Wide Receivers - Eric Price
Running Backs - Curtis Modkins
Tight Ends - John Embree
Off. Line - Joe D'Alessandres
Def. Coord. - Dom Capers or Dick LeBeau (Whichever is available)
Linebackers - Gunther Cunningham (He would be able to coach what Bill needs from his linebackers)
Def. Line - Kurt Schottenheimer (He usually goes where Marty is)
Def. Backs - David Gibbs
Special Teams - Anyone of proven experience and success

Players are only as good as their coaches. This coaching staff would be TOTALLY on the same page.

I think Pollard needs to play linebacker. He is a hard hitter and he cant cover deep. He is a ballhawk. He should take Demario Williams spot in the line up.. If you notice, Demario weighs only 8 pound more than Pollard and thats not a lot. Pollard is younger could grow into a stud there. Another thing I look at is that if Pollard can somehow make it back to the punter and block a punt then its shouldnt be any problem with him making it to the QB or RB in the backfield and getting a sack, QB Pressure or a Tackle For Loss.

Now the offensive line issue. Here are my starters.

LT Herb Taylor (He's earned the LT position and plus we could use Albert elsewhere),

LG Brian Waters (Any Questions),

C Rudy Niswanger (A bit tall to play center but always seems to help the right guard more than the left which makes it hard for him to focus of the delay blitzes),

RG Brandon Albert (You all are probably scratching your heads on this one being that Albert is making the transition pretty well but he would do better at guard and the running game would do a lot better. He would eventually take over at LG once Brian Waters retire)

RT Barry Richardson (He is young and needs to develop. He couldnt be any worse than Highway 77 so you might as well let him get some PT to learn that position).

"Therein lies my one and only defense of Gunther Cunningham: if the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit."

I have mixed feelings about Gunther Cunningham. I love his passion for the game and even his style but he can't coach these players. He needs a few raw talent pass rushers. DE and LB I like the decision of moving DJ to MLB because it is the captains chair, and he has tenure. He needs to improve on a game to game basis by providing consistency. I heard someone say something of moving Pollard to linebacker. He is big enough and fast enough to play zone especially in the middle, but not deep field. We practically already do use him in the box. He would definitely be on the mind of every qb more often at the OLB position due to the of the whole Brady circumstance.

Priority #1 LB/DE We need a Merriman style on the outside
If Coffman is available in early second round we must take him no doubt in my mind he can put up respectable numbers in relation to the leagues best ever Tony G.

Priority #2 O line (Free agent around B+ grade plus draft picks)

Priority #3 or #1 QB - if Thigpen gets hurt or decides his luck ran out and throws five more picks in his last three games of his career. we need depth at quarterback regardless. We have shown what a great draft does and its not winning games, it does though get talent on your roster. All twelve of the kids the Chiefs drafted will be better in their second year. If they want to make real money then they will do what it necessary in team building. We will be better, but if it's going to be soon it's going to be with playing the class of 2008 draft choices and Thigpen. By all means though I am down for throwing the dice at a round 1 qb so long as its NOT someone who is under 6'3" and hasn't already become a man.
