Great article Nathan - couldn't agree anymore. I met King Carl at a Chief-Minnisota game in Minny years ago when DT was still alive and he was one arrogant unfriendly SOB to me. I was dressed head to toe - Chief jersey. doo rag, etc so he knew i was a fan who traveled to support his team and he could have cared less to even acknowledge my Hello. Carl don't let the F-in door hit you on the way out. GO CHIEFS

Nice article Nathan. I believe Carl over-stayed his welcome. We should not forget his early contributions though. The nineties were exciting with a great defense. But 20 years with a team is really too long. I agree, Clark probably kept him here because of his ties to his dad. It will be interesting to see what kind of move Clark makes and then what kind of move that person makes.

Great insight as always Nathan!
Think about it friends. Herm in all reality has been nothing more than a player and a scout. Those are good things but a coordinator - never. With that said; if you've never coordinated anything, it's no wonder you can't coordinate a team, let alone a gameplan.
We definately need a new special teams coach as well. There are a lot of good, experienced coaches out there but that will be left for the next coach to hire.
Finally,
I hope Clark moves quickly to get his GM. I'm not sold on Scott Pioli for the simple fact that he is not a "football guy". He's a great scout but not a operations guy. Clark said the GM will focus on the operations side not the business side. I look for Denny Thum to be the President. If Clark really wants a GM to focus on the football side he needs to get Marty who in turn will get Bill Cowher. The Miami Dolphins is a good example of what type of partnership that would be. Bill Parcells hired his head coach who worked with him in Dallas and look how that has turned out so far.
Next year we will have a double digit, winning season and be in the playoffs. Marty and Bill know how to build and there are few options out there that do know how to do this. We've got the foundation started, let these two guys finish the job and Chiefs fans will come back.
"If you build it, they will come"

Has anyone checked on JD? I hope Herm hasn't put him over the deep end. Nathan, once again a great article, I couldn't agree more. My only hope is that if we do wise up and get rid of Herm in a couple of weeks that we go through a proper interview process to get our next coach. Herm was a preconceived notion when I felt that many others were much more capable and suited to our needs. I hope that Cowher isn't already penciled in and they just go through the motions like they did last time.

I agree that Herm has far exceeded his potential as a coach. He has nowhere left to go, but down. I praise his effort and determination, certainly not his ineptitude toward cleaning out games. I just realized Vermeil had a talent for cleaning out games. Once he established a certain game tempo or demeanor it didn't let off and his players understood. Herm looks like a deer in headlights when it come to being up by more than two scores. Both times we have been up by more than two scores our defense immediately gives up a touchdown. Tampa 21-3 Chargers 21-3. We gave up the score against Tampa on Special Teams, I know that Priefer has had a lot of people in and out of his official special teams roster, but without #47 and #31 we would be sh*t on special teams. He needs to go. His kicker choked at the most opportune time to become a game winning hero. Not mention he could have sealed the deal with a kick in the first half.

Our playing calling is obviously the thing that is now holding us back. We are finally playing physical football and our rookies are playing more like 2nd Year players. I can't wait to see who becomes GM these are great times for the Chiefs even if it statistically was the worst season ever. We have learned enough from all the losses this year to take care of the next few years. I expect a truly professional team in Week 1 2009 and expect them to win their first two games since 2005, as long as we don't start 2-2 like 05' but still make it to 10-6 which should win the division unlike 2005. All will about a quarter of the amount of experience as that 2005 team had. It's a lot to wish for, but I'll give up my presents this year to get a playoff present next year.
