[KC Chiefs.com] Guard Brian Waters has been named by the Kansas City Chiefs as its nominee for this year’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. He joins 31 other candidates, one from each NFL franchise, in consideration for the illustrious accolade.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will announce the recipient of this league-wide honor just prior to kickoff of Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, February 1, in Tampa, Florida. Waters was also one of four NFL players named as finalists for last season’s award.
The prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award is unique among NFL honors. It is the only NFL acknowledgment that recognizes a player for his community service activities as well as his excellence on the field. The Award has been given annually since 1970 and no franchise has garnered more honorees than the Chiefs: LB Willie Lanier (1972), QB Len Dawson (1973), LB Derrick Thomas (1993) and G Will Shields (2003).

I can’t believe that Larry Johnson wasn’t nominated for this award.

LOL nice one!! They should have a moron of the year, we could easily nominate him. I’m sure he would he still be shut out by Adam Jones though… what a (bigger) douche!!!

It’s a shame Brian Waters isn’t part of a winning team though. He’s such a great leader and role model for young players. He doesn’t ask for trades(Tony G) or hit girls at clubs(larry j) he just goes out there and takes care of business. If there were a couple more of him on the team and a good coach, we have the talent to contend for the division. Brian you’re great. GO CHIEFS!!

are you talking about a couple more lineman with his talent or just leadership in general

LJ would go against Jon Edwards for biggest d**che of the universe and LJ would still lose that one suprisingly (c’mon guys its a south park reference.
Anyway, i honestly think he deserves this, I really dunno what the other 31 did in their community but look how this guy plays and helps his community during the duration of the herm-empire. This team sucks a$$ and rather than try to walk away, like tony did, he stayed a leader in the locker room and on the field while also helping out around town.
*Nothing against Tony, but rather, the fact that the chiefs suck so much right now, even Tony wanted out.

Guys, I don’t blame Tony for wanting out… he’s a competitor and wanted to win… and even though he wanted a trade he came back and played his best year ever! He was a complete professional. I think he’ll stay in KC, he loves it here! and he’s also a great role model… as far as Brian Waters… he’s in a class of his own!!!! Way to go!!!
