Robert–re: your proposed coaching staff, I’m not a fan of bringing back Saunders over Gailey. Saunders runs very successful offenses, but his offenses are all essentially the same regardless of the personnel. Gailey, on the other hand, is a chameleon. He can quickly and effectively adjust the entire shape of an offense to suit the individual talents of the players he’s working with. Gailey is NFL-caliber head coach material. We should thank our lucky stars we have him in any capacity. If Spagnuolo isn’t interested in running the show, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gailey was given a shot.

And as for a special teams coach, my choice there is the same as it’s always been: Bobby April. I believe he is worth a mid round draft pick, but Buffalo would never part with him.

Former Patriots VP of Player Personnel Scott Pioli has agreed to become GM of the Chiefs, according to the National Football Post.

Pioli was the top GM candidate available and decorated for strong drafts in New England. However, there’s no way to tell how much input he had in relation to Bill Belichick. Pioli has an enormously tall task in front of him, especially if he wants to install a 3-4 defense. The Chiefs have drafted strictly 4-3 players (Tamba Hali, Glenn Dorsey) in recent years. it is important to keep chan gailey mainly because he was the ONLY reason why the chiefs even kept it close in many games. personally, it seemed like herm overrode chan’s playcalling in many crucial late-game situations. at this point, ALL OF THE FAULT lies with herm edwards. you don’t have to lose fourteen games to rebuild. herm’s poorly executed youth movement and idiotic play calling in close situations merit an immediate expulsion from his position.

Great article Nathan! Where have you been? It’s been awhile since you’ve posted any commentaries.

Here’s a new coaching staff I dreamed up. I’m curious to see peoples comments.

Head Coach: Mike Shanahan

Off. Coor: Al Saunders
QB Coach: Brian Schottenheimer
Off. Line: Bob Saunders
Running Backs: Jimmy Raye Sr.
Tight Ends: John Embree
Wide Receivers: Eric Price

Def. Coor: Dom Capers
Def. Line: Romeo Crennel
Linebackers: Gunther Cunningham
Secondary: David Gibbs

Special Teams: A proven, successful coach

When you look at these coaches, a collection of former head coaches and coordinators, you see the possibility of a successful product on the field. The number one task for Mike Shanahan and the new GM will be for every coach to check their egos at the gate and come together, game plan, develop schemes that no other team in the NFL will be able to compare.

What a fantasy but who knows, anything is possible in the NFL.
