[ESPN.com] Former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards is joining ESPN as a NFL studio analyst, the network announced today.

Edwards will appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPNEWS and other programs throughout the year in addition to contributing analysis on ESPN Radio and other platforms. He is scheduled to start in mid February.

Edwards, who worked a brief stint at ESPN during the 2008 NFL offseason as a guest analyst, is looking forward to working for them again. “I’m excited about the opportunity to join the ESPN team and offer my insight as a former player and head coach. I’m going to be truthful with my opinions on all the issues that take place on and off the field of play.”

    1. Right on Herm. Perhaps you’ve found your true calling. Your job finally fits your skill set: ranting, preaching, placing blame, no accountability necessary, being likable actually applies to your job now, etc.

Of course, you’re still going to have to manage the “TV clock”, but maybe a simple off-set technician with a shepherd’s hook would do the trick.

    2. That’s what happens when you get rid of guys like Dante Hall and Tony Richardson and Jarred Allen.

    3. OH NOOOOOO…… he is going to ruin the espn team!! probably draft young analyst!! probably trade berman. and three speak!

    4. Hopefully he will replace Keyshawn Johnson.

    5. The best thing the Chiefs could have done was blow the Vermeil team up. The only problem was they started it two years late. They should have went young in Edwards first year, the team would be in the third year of a youth movement and being enthused with a new coaching staff. Now the new staff inherits this situation. Poor decisions by a GM that couldn’t accept his own failures.

    6. Now Herm can see how real coaches get their team to “PLAY TO WIN THE GAME” and not just preach it.

    7. Adam,

Yeah but getting rid of T-Rich and Jarred Allen…..honestly…BAD MOVE.

    8. Give the man a little respect VLTC. Maybe he wasn’t the man for the job, but he had good intentions for the Chiefs. What do you want the man to do? suffer through intense depression?

    9. Good for Herm. He wasn’t the right coach for the Chiefs but don’t be haters. Herm has talent in commentary situations and I hope for the best for him and his family.

    10. …by the way, thank you Scott Pioli

    11. Herm is gone (thank God), but all the trash-talkin haters need to quit acting like criminal-ass raiders fans.

    12. I am glad he landed on his feet. Now ESPN will have to deal with all of his commentary rooted in blaming everyone but himself for failures. He is a nice guy that should be in the booth or on the set and not roaming the sidelines! I wish him all the best, however I will certainly be watching The NFL Network and not ESPN this coming season. This is simply because everytime I see him it will remind me of his disasterous years in K.C.! Whenever a Chief makes a good play next year he will be sure and mention that it was he who made that player what he is and I am one Chiefs fan that has heard enough of that B.S. to last me a lifetime and another reason to switch off the four letter network and go elsewhere.

    13. Hey, sorry if I came of as “hating”. I really think this is a good move for Herm. My little jab about the “clock” is just for fun. I don’t think anyone can actually argue that he isn’t horrible at managing the clock.

But in case it wasn’t clear, I do wish the best for Herm. I don’t overtly wish bad things personally to anyone (not even the raiders). I actually wished Herm to be fired b/c it’s a good thing for him. He was in over his head and that couldn’t have made him happy and was a misuse/waste of his talents. Now he can feel good about what he does.

      Comment by VLTC — January 30, 2009 @ 10:44 am

    14. Only Herm has to CONTINUALLY remind people that he tells the truth. Honest people don’t need to tell you they are honest, do they?

Pointing out the facts is not “hating”. I don’t hate the man, but I do dislike him for his dishonesty, blaming, scapegoating & excuse-making. He did/still does those things. That is a fact.

If Herm supporters can not handle the facts, then you need to listen to Herm & “get over it.”

There is a difference between dislike & hate.

If someone at your job blamed you for something they did, would you be running around defending their integrity & saying what a good person they are? I don’t think so.

Chief Tom, what was the road to hell paved with?

I don’t wish Herm bad things, but I am sick & F’N tired of all of his lying. If Herm continues to choose to be dishonest & untruthful, then I will continue to hi-light it. Anytime he wants to stop doing those things, then so will I. It all starts & stops with Herm.

    15. herm is a canser to the chiefs he had said we would be in the playoffs this year and make the superbowl rember guys that was a lie herm is gone thank god

    16. So if the next coach we hire struggles through his first year, then what? Will chiefs fans only be happy when we make it to the playoffs every year?

      Comment by KC111110 — January 30, 2009 @ 1:02 pm

    17. Or can we as a fan base try to remember what its like to have a GM that we can trust is making the right decisions for this organization? Because chances are we are going have a hard time winning eight games next year.

Just be aware that this years draft will make or break this team for years to come, because a bad team needs at least 2-3 good drafts in a row + GOOD VETERAN LEADERS to play as a successful unit in the NFL.

So this means LJ and Tony G and all these players wanting out of KC need to keep their “Cry-Holes” shut long enough for Pioli to put the pieces around them to win.

      Comment by KC111110 — January 30, 2009 @ 1:09 pm

    18. Michael Diedrich- What the hell are you talking about?! Herm never said he was going to take us to the Super Bowl, no coach would say something that stupid. If he did tell me where to find it, I would like to see prove of that, also we know that you think Herm is a cancer you say it on every freakin post, he’s gone, get over it.

JD- you are just an ass, you’re reading way to much into it, calm down, besides I never mentioned the word hate, you need to read posts before replying.

    20. Herm is a classy guy and shouldn’t be thrown under the bus…..he never gave up even though he wasn’t the man for the job. Anyone old enough to have seen him play knows that he was the epitamy of hard work and dedication, setting an example for everyone around him. TRUE, he never belonged as a head coach, but truly is a person that I would like to see find his true calling. GOOD LUCK! His tireless work will unfortunately be clouded by his win/loss record…..

      Comment by Mike — January 30, 2009 @ 6:58 pm

    21. Herm isnt the reason the T-Rich and Jared Allen are gone, that is more of a GM thing than a head coach thing. Herm isnt the one who decides who to resign, who not to resign, what kind of contracts guys should be getting, how much money guys are gonna make, etc. So I dont see how we can blame him for that as somebody in one of the earlier posts did

    24. Miss a little, miss a lot! JF, you stole my thunder. I was going to ask Chief Tom what “The road to hell was paved with?” Of course the answer is Good Intentions!

I think if you look back over some of the previous posts in the previous pages, you will see that I too wish no ill will toward Herm Edwards, in fact, quite the opposite. I hope he does great, and I agree that he should NEVER, EVER have an opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL again. Fool me once, shame on you (NY Jets), fool me twice, shame on me (KC Chiefs), there should not be a third chance!

    30. Chief Tom,

The only part in post 14 that had to do with you was the part that said “Chief Tom”. That’s why I put “Chief Tom” in the front of that sentence because that was the only sentence that was for you. Chief Tom.

Maybe “you need to read posts before replying”. Hmm, that quote sounds familiar, I wonder where I got that from?

But that’s cool. At least you were able to debate me on the facts & we were able to have an intelligent back-&-forth. Oh wait, you didn’t do that, you just called me a name. Oops!

You were just probably saving your witty responses for Mike Noonan. Oops! You didn’t do that either.

You can’t debate facts & you don’t read posts before replying, but you do call people names. Way to go, HI-FIVE SCORE!!

What clever names will you call me now?

Of course Herm would never promise the Super Bowl, he knows he’s not that good.

Lovie Smith, on the other hand, must be pretty stupid, according to you. He foolishly promised to take the Bears to the SB & stupidly followed that up by actually taking the Bears to the SB. What a moron.

Lovie was such an idiot for thinking the goal of the NFL should be the same goal he should have for his team. I’m very thankful for Herm lowering our expectations so much that we should be happy we’re playing rookies and “almost winning” 8 games this year.

I’m actually pretty calm, but thanks for your concern.

Chief Tom, so there’s no confusion, THIS ENTIRE POST is for you, Chief Tom, and only you. Chief Tom.

    31. All you guys fight too much. This is about chiefs, not the actual people writing about the chiefs. You all get to personal with your attacks.

About NFL news, I hate that the Steelers won. I was cheering for the Cardinals.

Also, I heard today that Mr. Pioli is looking to get Matt Cassell via trade and that we will be acquiring Todd Haley late this week or soon after the pro bowl…

I like the sound of that. If you don’t please tell me why.

    33. Chief Tom,

You have absolutely no credibility here. You have been a Herm supporter and have made me sick so many times with your crap on how we never gave him a chance, we misunderstood him, he was the right guy here and it’s everyone elses fault he didn’t succeed. Shut up man! I think that Chief Tom is Herms brother or something. You’re bringing me down from the high that I got when I heard Herm was outta here man.
