[Kansas City.com] Michael Merritt, a tight end whom the Chiefs drafted in the seventh round last year, was arrested early Thursday in Orlando, Fla., and charged with possession of marijuana.
An employee at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Merritt had been booked and released Thursday after being arrested at 2:37 a.m. Thursday.
According to an Orlando television station’s Web site, which cited an arrest affidavit, Merritt was arrested in his car after police allegedly saw him rolling what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette.
Police found three grams of marijuana in Merritt’s shoe, the Web site quoted the affidavit as stating.

Todd Haley is officially the new head coach in KC. LOL @ Mike Merritt being anything more than practice squad fodder.

What ever happened to Michael Allan? I thought that he would pan out before Merritt did.

So that was the dude that I was smoking that deal with.
They should cut the guy some slack, it was the off-season, and as long as they aren’t doing performance enhancing drugs, who cares?
The only thing that weed enhances my performance on is the ability to ingest more food and drink.

I CARE! Possession of marijuana is a crime and being a professional athlete does NOT exempt one from the law. I know of kids well under the age of 18 that read this site on a regular basis. I suspect that reading comments like some of the above might give them the idea that marijuana use us ‘OK’. Is that the message we want to send?

michaelc – the did what we thought they did…and we let them off the hook.
A little insight kids at the age of 4 and younger have already been introduced to marijuana by there parents…
Bad arguement on your behalf.
This is all about proper upbringing, and giving the child the knowledge to them to know what they will do. That is where you come in as a parent. Give them the options and let them decide. My daughters never did and if they do I would still love them. They also know right from wrong.
They know I do not condone this type of use. They kno that it is not the right way to do things. I have NEVER done any illegal drugs. and I was born in 1964.
Now why would Merritt he do this to bring a spotlight into his career, who knows. The athletes are more scrutinized then the common folks. Why because they are in the spotlight.

It also seems to enhance your clever ability to carry on a grown-up discussion with petty name-calling and other witty tactics I have forgotten about since I left grade school.

The Law is The Law! If you don’t like it, you have every right as a citizen to try to get it repealed (sp?), or changed by legal means. If you break the law, there are always consequences, including those from the NFL (Otherwise known as the No Fun League), you can not just think you can do these things and walk away without paying the price for screwing up!
