CHIEFS HIRE FORMER OKLAHOMA COACH GIBBS

Kansas City kept its head coaching search, and now its subsequent assistant head coaching search, very quiet.

But the Chiefs will soon announce that theyâ€™ve hired former Saints defensive coordinator and University of Oklahoma coach Gary Gibbs to fill one of two vacant positions â€” either defensive coordinator or linebackers coach.

Chiefs Announce Changes on Coaching Staff

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that five members of the coaching staff will not be retained. Those coaches include: Jon Embree (tight ends), Michael Ketchum (defensive assistant/assistant linebackers), Curtis Modkins (running backs), Kevin Patullo (offensive assistant/quality control) and Eric Price (wide receivers).

Travis, I live in the Chicago area my friend, and I hate to tell you this, but, the Chiefs don’t want any part of Tommie Harris! The guys is a bust if he plays anything like he did last year! He stunk up the joint…kind of reminded me of LJ, got the big payday and then nothing!

LJ will most certainly not be near the top again, regardless of who he plays for or what line he plays behind, guaranteed. He does not hit the line with purpose and his only noteworthy runs the last two seasons has been holes the size of trucks. He seems to no longer be able to break tackles and is constantly tackled by corners that he should be running over.

Regardless of his benefit to the team, he is just as harmful in the locker room.

You guys…if we get a good line LJ will be as good as any back in the league. You guys all say we need a better line…well if we do we don’t need to trade or whatever to LJ. Also at QB, if we have a better line anybody will be good…so Thigpen would be even better.

I don’t think our biggest moves will be on offense..they will be defense, defense, defense. If we don’t get a pass rusher, a couple linebackers, and a better corner/safety we will suck no matter if LJ is here or not.

yea i think if we got boldin the offense would be good and draft a lineman with our pick i live in tn haynesworth only played good in contract years but if he played the way he did here the last 2yrs he will make everyone on the d look better

Eh, I think that the odds are that he WILL be on the roster. They were discussing the possibilities for him on Metro sports the other day and they said exactly what I had been thinking for a while. His age, recent productivity and off the field issues make him very hard to move in a trade. His contract situation with us, they wont just outright release him. In all reality, our BEST bet, keep him or not, is to try to get him going behind whatever offense we run. Get him going so that then you can either keep him, OR if at that point the team is still interested in moving him, then in preseason and early in the regular season you pretty much showcase him and get it on tape that he still has stuff left in the tank and try to move him in a trade then.

Tommie Harris signed a one year deal with Chicago last year. He is a free agent again this year.

We have several options with LJ due to a clause in his contract regarding personal conduct. I don’t care what we do with him as long as he is no longer on the roster.

Okay lets grow up and be realistic here. Let LJ rot in misery? He wants out of KC, let him go. Keeping him around and not letting him play is just plain childish. This is professional sports, teams wont generally do something for the plain simplicity of spite. Thats like not talking to a friend because you wanted to go swimming and he didn’t.

Tony should stay, but, only if it is what he wants, if he wants out, we should try to work out a trade to the best team possible for him, as long as we get something decent in return.

Larry Johnson on the other hand should rot in misery. So, for LJ I suggest we do one of two things, first is if we can not get the best possible deal from Detroit (Otherwise known as Football Hell), then the Chiefs should pull an Al Davis move, and let LJ rot on the bench or practice squad or inactive list for each game the rest of his career. Yes, the Chiefs will have to pay him, but, I am sure there are a whole lot of insentives that he will miss out on, just because he is not even getting a sniff of the playing field!

I do realize that we are waaay under the cap and could get some quality free agents, I just dont think that Tank Johnson would be a good fit for us. We are already gonna get rid of Larry and thats basically all of our (known) character issues for this team. Granted I agree that Haley wouldnt take as much shit as say Herm would… but we just dont need that on our football team.

The other guys would help, but I think Cottam will be a good starting TE whenever it’s his time so that means no Daniels.

I want any of the Ravens players that will be free agents for sure and Peppers if we could lock him up.

Boldin would be great.. character issues could be a concern but if he comes to KC then he gets a new contract and he would be happy with that. Haley would know how to control him too. We could also nix the idea of drafting Crabtree with this move as then we have 2 great and solid WRs.

Best possible scenario would be to pick up haynesworth. That would be huge. Next get a QB to be a leader for the offense (I just don’t see that in thigpen) then fill out the team with some good draft picks. Don’t be surprised if Lj and tony g are both still wearing the red and gold next season. The chiefs need All the talent they can get right now and trading either of them would be a bad idea. Just look at the situation in NYG a couple years back, winning solves all those problems. Plus with a good O line I could see a thunder/ lightning combo like in Tennessee.

Ive seen Tommie Harris name show up as a potential free agent a couple of times, if Im not mistaken, the Bears gave him a deal during the 2008 season that extended him.

It wouldn’t be the first free agent on the free agency websites that was simply never taken off the list

I have been pondering a lot lately on who the Defensive Coordinator for the Chiefs might be. This is a crucial hire because we need a great guy to run the defense. Haley will take care of the offensive side but we need someone who can come in and take care of the defensive side and restore the glory. While I have pondered on it i have thought about the things that would be important for this most important of roles. He would have to be a guy that really and truly understands defense, is on the same page as Clark, Haley, and Pioli and would bring some innovation, creativity and moderness to our bland, vanilla defensive schemes. Our personnel on defense is that of a 4-3 with potential to run a hybrid 3-4 provided we bring in some linebackers. Upon sifting through all of this I keep coming across Todd Bowles’ name. It makes quite a bit of sense. This is another young guy who, like Todd Haley, is from the Bill Parcells tree. He would most likely be on the same page as Clark/Pioli/Haley. He would run a 4-3/3-4 hybrid type defense. I might be wrong but this is where I see this going possibly.

The problem we will be fighting in the free agent market is that everyone got an increase. That is why I think Arizona will eventually give Boldin what he wants. I saw an interview this morning and they said they won’t trade him (2 years remaining on contract). I like Warner, but Pioli’s history would suggest that isn’t likely, not to mention what we would have to give for a 1 or 2 year deal. I think Pioli is going to want credit for building a team, like the Patriots, that are solid for years with minimal additions.

I would really like to see some combination of Suggs, Tommie Harris, Vilma, and Peppers on the defensive side, although I wouldn’t complain about an addition of any of the above.

Saturday and Goff or Snee would make the offensive line productive again, instantly. Roy Williams would be a great addition for the offense also.

Travis – Agree with your comments But Boldin has an issue with wanting starting pay, Hence Arizona would not be able to keep him. Therefor he could be on another team.

Warner loves Haley (no not that way you pervs.) He loves a fast passing game. Could be still a possibility as a mentor for Tyler.

If we could get Peppers and Suggs I would be estatic. I still believe that the O-Line needs the work to save a QB and make the Offense click
