[KFFL] KFFL reports that free-agent WR Bobby Engram visited with the Chiefs today. The thirty-six year old Engram is a thirteen-year NFL veteran who has spent the last eight seasons with the Seahawks.
The Chiefs will also meet with free-agent LB Clark Haggans on Wednesday. Haggans spent his first eight seasons with the Steelers before moving on to Arizona last season.

Great, more guys with walkers and wheelchairs…

Not exactly excited about these 2 options…what about Jordan Gross? He is a good lineman.
Comment by Ryan — March 3, 2009 @ 9:24 pm
visit does not always mean contract…anyone hear if Page signed his offer sheet?
Comment by xfatdannx — March 3, 2009 @ 9:47 pm
Yeah man, let these ol’ timers keep on movin through KC and onto another city.
xfatdannx- Page got signed a couple days back.

Didn’t Gross get signed by Carolina?

forget engram….i think mike furry would be a great Wes Welker clone for Cassel. He was great in detroit so with Cassel at the helm he would be money. I also wouldnt mind grabbing Reggie Williams from Jax now that hes a FA. hes only in his 5th year, 6’4″ and could use a fresh start.
as for other positions i wouldnt mind haggans but id rather get someone with a little more pep in their step but veteran presence on def can only help us. We dont have to be 100% young
Comment by bashman — March 4, 2009 @ 12:09 am
Well I think we have more needs then at wide receiver! OL and DL. Get r DONE Poloili Get us a Moter like Jared Allen HAD
Comment by Jason — March 4, 2009 @ 8:48 am
Well I think they are bringing in engram for a look we need a healhty number two cause mark bradley cant stay healthy long. I would like them to get igor olshansky he needs a fresh start and would probably like to get back at the chargers. as for linbackers get as many as you can to play the 3-4.
Comment by Justin — March 4, 2009 @ 8:58 am
I think Haggans would be an excellent addition especially if we play the 3-4 he has a super bowl ring in that system.
Comment by Nate — March 4, 2009 @ 8:59 am
I like Haggans for the 3-4 D. It’s the only defense he’s played in during his career. Since he was a DE in college and plays the outside linebacker, you could put him and DJ on the outsides, veteran Verbal and hopefully with the 3rd pick (Aaron Curry) inside. Now you just rebuilt the linebackers that last year had Boiman and Thomas starting.
Engram is a vet that could help with our young receivers. Maybe he can teach them not to drop the easy passes. Although he is 36 and his last few years in Seattle have been nothing but injury plagued.
How about bringing in Devery Henderson. He also went to LSU and he can give a deep threat if D-Bo or Tony G are double covered.
At the end of the day Engram and Haggans have both been to the Superbowl so they know what it takes to get to the big game.
Comment by Anthony — March 4, 2009 @ 1:21 pm
Engram is the epitome of a 3rd down receiver. He is not a long term solution, but a damn fine addition to the squad for the next one or two years. Hopefully he can teach his great hand skills to D Bowe.
Comment by ChiefJT — March 4, 2009 @ 2:18 pm
I have a feeling that we will end up signing c.haggans and passing up on b.engram. he’s damaged goods and nowhere close to being a #2 WR in the NFL anymore.
Haggans on the other hand could help us a lot, he is a 6’4″/245 lb. LB that has been to two superbowls and has one ring from SB XL. This would also help take the pressure off drafting a LB.
Comment by KC111110 — March 4, 2009 @ 2:38 pm
And d.henderson did re-sign with new orleans today.
But some WR’s still available in free agency include H.Baskett/phi(6’4″), m.furrey/det (6’0″), m.floyd/SD (6’5″), m.harrison/IND (6’0″), R.williams/Jac (6’4″), or R.Martin/GB (6’4″). These guys would help m.cassel, because they are similar in size to some of the Wr’s from New England.

Anyone watching Herm Edwards on NFL Live?
Comment by Jeff in VA — March 4, 2009 @ 3:14 pm
We definitely need a couple more WRs in camp. Bradley had a nice flash, but who knows if he can be a legitimate #2 this year. And after him there’s nothing too exciting at the moment.
While I’m not that excited about Engram, a veteran presence might be a good idea.

one name ——Boldin
Comment by kcchiefs19692003 — March 4, 2009 @ 6:32 pm
Boldin probably out of the question. Engram ahhh no. Get Will Franklin out there and pick up crabtree in the draft. If not Mizzou has another good receiver in the draft this year.
Comment by John Scott — March 4, 2009 @ 7:57 pm
I see that Torry Holt wants out of St Louis…. I think he’d look damn good in Red & Gold.
Comment by Billy Biggrigger — March 4, 2009 @ 8:55 pm
i agree, if were gonna get a vet wr we should try to get holt now that he wants out
Comment by pj — March 4, 2009 @ 10:55 pm
So the cowboys just cut terrel owens, and the colts already cut marvin harrison. Now the rams are probably going to cut torre holt too??? Damn, its a good time to be in the market for a big time WR and have a bunch of money to spend.
Its time for: Lets make a deal “PIOLI STYLE”
Comment by KC111110 — March 4, 2009 @ 11:18 pm
1st) Gross is long gone. 2nd) Haggans will be an awesome addition. Haggans,Vrabel, DJ, Curry (Hopefully our draft pick*) will be an awesome mix of vets and youth that will dominate! 3rd) Enghram is a solid wideout coming off an injury. If he is not ready to go, we will not make him an offer and if we do it won’t be for much! Remember, the Chiefs and Pats do not overpay! Also, who were the wideouts on the Pats 1st 2 Superbowl teams? Troy Brown and ???
* After Crabtrees injury, I want Curry!
Comment by DCChief — March 4, 2009 @ 11:54 pm
Beware of Haggans, did we not learn to never sign a Pittsburgh cast-off? If the Steelers get rid of someone or let them go there is a reason. Also why is everyone so high on Aaron Curry? If we go to a 3-4 which we are Brian Orakpo would be much better as an outside linebacker. Curry sucks at rushing the passer.
Comment by NCCHIEFSFAN — March 5, 2009 @ 9:01 am
Curry doesn’t suck at rushing he’s just to valuable in pass coverage. Curry runs a 4.6 with his size and speed he would be a handful rushing the quarterback. Besides #3 is to early to pick Orakpo.
Comment by Nate — March 5, 2009 @ 10:36 am
mario willims went first overall a few years ago thats not to high to draft a de-lb combo. Also Orakpo runs a 4.64 40 and is an inch taller, 20 lbs heavier, and a hell of alot stronger.
Comment by NCCHIEFSFAN — March 5, 2009 @ 10:54 am
NCCHIEFSFAN..
We need Curry because he is an inside LB not outside.. and he is the s**t come on he is all but guaranteed to be a great player. If we could get Orakpo and Curry that would be hellanice though..
Comment by RedNGold4LIFE — March 5, 2009 @ 11:42 am
Orakpo is bigger and stronger because he was a pass rushing defensive end in college while Curry was a linebacker. Two years ago Orakpo was only 225 and way down on the depth chart at Texas. Last year he put on 40 pounds and earned the starting spot for the 1st time. By the way, he got hurt and missed 4 to 5 games!!! Curry has started and dominated for 3 straight years. Never been hurt, won the college award for best linebacker, can play outside or inside and was devastating at the combine! If it’s Orakpo or Curry, thats a no brainer!
Comment by DCChief — March 5, 2009 @ 11:50 am
Curry is a better football player Curry can rush the passer
Comment by dirt — March 5, 2009 @ 11:51 am
Orakpo ran a 4.70 not 4.64 I did see a 4.6 time but that was unofficial. His highest official time is 4.70. Still real good I’m not knockin him I would just rather have Curry. But if we could trade down get our 2nd round pick back and then draft Orakpo I would be happy with that as well.
Comment by Nate — March 5, 2009 @ 12:26 pm
Curry is probably going to be the first player selected, i just dont see the lions taking a QB, say what you want but stafford’s not a #1 pick. He has a j.harrington, or a.smith feel about him, like he’s just a bunch of hype.
Haley is going to make a push to draft crabtree, but pioli is most likely going to fall in love with one of the many big/strong/fast o-linemen there are in this yr’s draft.
A trade could happen, but we would need to get a hell of an offer from someone, and the only way that would happen is if curry fell to us. And if thats the case we arent trading away a shot at that guy.
Comment by KC111110 — March 5, 2009 @ 2:27 pm
I guess I’m just day-dreaming, I know we need big time linebacker help but Orakpos sack stats are insane, get where I’m comin from? Even though we need LB’s we need a pass rush even worse I think.
Comment by NCCHIEFSFAN — March 5, 2009 @ 4:14 pm
Orakpo is an awesome defensive end… but he is not worthy of the 3rd overall pick… aaron curry is a beast and i believe he would be a hell of a pass rusher given the opportunity.. in wake forest he was not given that.. i believe we will draft him and he will play inside .. he played outside in college tho.. anyhow all this talk about the 3-4 .. if we switch to that is dorsey goin to play nose tackle or what .. i dunno that he would be much of one
Comment by kc817 — March 5, 2009 @ 6:10 pm
Geez, T.O. sure does sound good for my offense
Comment by Todd Haley — March 5, 2009 @ 6:24 pm
In my opinion these are the best three players in this yr’s draft (Aaron Curry[lb/wake], Mike Crabtree[wr/txtech], and Eugene Monroe[ol/va]) so we are going to get one of them, unless we trade down.
Comment by KC111110 — March 6, 2009 @ 8:32 am
It is time for Change in KC! Why not Curry? Why not the Chiefs? We(the chiefs) have a shot at getting a solid, smart, probowl caliber football player that could spend the next 8 to 10(or more)years calling our defenses. Substance over flash everytime! Orakpo is a nice player, yes nice, but not a freaking stud like Curry. I would rather have a Ray Lewis over a Jarred Allen anyday of the week!
