[Kansas City.com] The NFL on Monday granted the Chiefs and Cowboys permission to wear their original uniforms and helmets from their inaugural seasons of 1960 when they meet this season at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Personally, that’s something I’m excited about,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said. “Even though the Cowboys weren’t part of the AFL, their history is linked with that of the AFL and the Chiefs.”

The Chiefs will wear the same throwback uniforms and helmets for two other games this season. Both will come against a rival from the AFC West. One will be at Arrowhead, the other on the road.

    3. From kcchiefs.com (uniform history tab)
      1960-62
The Texans take the field for the AFL’s inaugural season in ‘60 sporting red helmets with gray facemasks. The helmet features the state of Texas in white with a gold star situated on Dallas. Home jerseys are solid red featuring white numerals, white “TV” numerals on the sleeves and white lettering, all trimmed in gold. Road jerseys are white with red numerals, red “TV” numerals on the sleeves and red lettering, all of which are bordered by thin gold trim. Both jerseys are a cloth design, featuring three-quarter sleeves with stitched “tackle twill” numerals and letters. The team wears white pants featuring vertical stripes of red, gold and red. Socks are red on top, white on the bottom with alternating stripes at the calf of white, red, gold, red and white. Although several minor changes are made to the stripe width over the years, the primary sock design remains relatively consistent to the present day.

    4. This SUCKS!!!
I was all for this until I found out that we are going to be wearing the state of Texas on our helmets. Why can’t we do the oldest throwback KC Chiefs uniforms instead of the stupid ass Dallas Texans??? I hate Dallas. The old Dallas Texans helmet is so damn ugly. I can’t believe this is actually happening. TERRIBLE IDEA CLARK!!!

      THIS SUCKS SO FREAKING BAD!!!!

      Comment by Chief Tom — March 24, 2009 @ 1:23 pm

    5. Yeah, I agree this does suck. I would rather see the old Chiefs throw backs, not the Dallas Texans. They were only the Dallas Texans for 2 years, so who gives a crap about that.

      Comment by Arrowhead — March 24, 2009 @ 1:39 pm

    6. Dude, it’s not even going to look like the Chiefs with a big Cowboy and the state of Texas on their helmet. Depressing news to say the least.

    7. I hate reading comments on this site because all you fools do is find something to cry about. It’s one game, and it is the 50 the year anniversary since the Chiefs moved from Dallas to KC.

As you geniuses have pointed out the helmets have the state of Texas on them… Who cares??? I think it will be fun to see, and a great opportunity for younger fans to learn about the history of the Chiefs.

And BTW, Clark Hunt, has already indicated we will be wearing our other throwbacks against other AFL teams throughout the season. So quit crying babies.

I think Clark Hunt kicks ass!!

    9. How about we just get new uniforms perdiod, its way over due and we are beginning a new era in our franchise. what do you think?

      Comment by Nick Nun — March 24, 2009 @ 2:28 pm

    10. Hell no this sucks. I hate Texas. Texas sucks. This is bad mojo. And against dallas? Hell, why don’t we just bow and scrape and pay homage to the bastards while we’re at it.

I’m a proud Missourian. Texans are blow-hard, big mouthed bastards. You’ve got to SHOW ME SUCKA!!!

No way, nothing but KC true is good enough for me.

    11. Whether you fools like it or not the Dallas Texans are the Kansas City Chiefs, if it wasn’t for the NFL being bastards back in the day and forcing lamar Hunts hand he would have never moved from Dallas to KC, so just be thankful in that regard. So stop trying to find ways of complaining and start as fans embrace the heritage of your team.

      GO CHIEFS/TEXANS

      Comment by Kyle — March 24, 2009 @ 2:59 pm

    12. Regardless of where the team began, this is KC’s team. I’d rather show pride in the region where it’s fans reside NOW, than pay homage to some ancient and for the most part, forgotten version of our mighty organization. Blood and guts, not steers and queers.

Give me the throwback from Lenny Dawsons era. Thats something to pay homage to.

      Comment by RedDeath2112 — March 24, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

    13. And let not ChiefTom confuse me with this twinkletoed little communist who calls himself Kyle. He bares my name, not my opinion.

      Comment by RedDeath2112 — March 24, 2009 @ 3:12 pm

    14. That is lame. But there will be some idiot that has to buy the throw back jersey. Of course the throw back Kansas City jersey doesn’t look much different than now. Only difference, it’s made in China!

I have a classic Chiefs banner with the Indian on it and the tri states. That would be cool on a helmet.

      Comment by Chief J — March 24, 2009 @ 3:17 pm

    15. This is no big deal for me. He we all have history from some other country, but we love America. This is the same thing, Chiefs have history in Texas but we love KC.

      They’re still the Chiefs!!

      Comment by Jeff in VA — March 24, 2009 @ 7:35 pm

    16. I don`t care what the f*ck they wear as long as they play well and beat the sh*t out of the cowboys. As for the division rivals, I`m sure you can figure out what i think about those games.

p.s. i hope cutler stays in denver cause he is horrible. he`s a pick machine, and if i was a DB i would be lickin my chops every time i`m on the field against this guy.

      Comment by Jeff from Jersey — March 24, 2009 @ 8:16 pm

    17. i will be happy if they just take off the bras and panties that they wore for the last 2 years!!!

      Comment by dennis — March 24, 2009 @ 9:37 pm

    18. We are the Kansas City Chiefs…NOT THE DALLAS TEXANS

      Comment by Kcchiefs19692003 — March 24, 2009 @ 10:58 pm

    19. As a Dallas resident, I love this idea because we were the first and original team from Dallas, which is one more thing to rub in the face of the stupid Cowboys fans down here. The fans here always complain about Jerry Jones, but blindly follow and buy into everthing he says like a bunch of sheep.

      Comment by chiefsfan88 — March 25, 2009 @ 12:16 am

    20. In my mind the Dallas Texans never existed.

They need to go with the old school KC Chiefs helmet instead. The Arrowhead was a lot bigger on the helmet back in the 60′s, instead we have to look at this other texas s**t. How can we expect to have pride in a team that has the state of Texas on our helmet, hell lets just put Kansas and California on there too. Once again….this sucks. And to think that we are wearing this crap for two more games against our division rivals?! I don’t want Denver or Oakland seeing the state of Texas when they get their a$$es beat, I want them to see a big a$$ KC on the side of those helmets.

      Comment by Jason T — March 25, 2009 @ 1:25 am

    21. Get a grip, guys! This is something Clark Hunt has decided to do. He is not doing it with evil intent. It is not a big issue. Let’s just support our team and our ownership and give them a little grace if we disagree.

      Comment by ChiefsAllTheWayIn2010 — March 25, 2009 @ 7:54 am

    22. Hey Jason T I for one would like to see oakland get thier A$$ HANDED TO THEM BECAUSE THEY PLAYED KC BEFORE IN THOSE SAME JERSY SO GET OVER IT EVERYONE.

      Comment by michael diedrich — March 25, 2009 @ 10:12 am

    23. i still think we need to wear the black jerseys at a home game

      Comment by xfatdannx — March 25, 2009 @ 11:21 am

    24. Michael diedrich- what are you talking about?

xfatdannx- we are not the Raiders, to hell with those ugly a$$ black jerseys. I ignore those people with the Black Chiefs jerseys.

notacrybaby- where did you read/hear about this-

And BTW, Clark Hunt, has already indicated we will be wearing our other throwbacks against other AFL teams throughout the season. So quit crying babies.

I haven’t seen that, can you prove it?

      Comment by Chief Tom — March 25, 2009 @ 11:45 am

    25. Isn’t the Tennessee Titans wearing the old Houston Oilers?
and the New England Pats are wearing the Boston Pats?

So why is it so bad if KC wears Dallas Texans…it is where our franchise began…you guys act like we were in KC then went to dallas and came back here..get over it.

And also our uniforms haven’t changed very much since we came over here so it would be like we’re wearing the same old uniforms anyways…!!

Oh and the Jets and Broncos uniforms are ugly as hell…

Yes, its on Kcchiefs.com, you can listen to the Clark Hunt Fan Forum audio, it’s about 1/4 into the audio.

    27. I can’t stand the thought of the state of Texas being on the helmut of the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS.

I would reluctantly agree with a compromise. Follow what the Steelers do…their emblem on one side and nothing on the other. The KANSAS CITY CHIEFS could put that lousy texas emblem on one side and the ARROWHEAD on the other. After all the 1963 KC Chiefs are “throwbacks” too.

      Comment by kcOldPops — March 27, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

    28. That’s what I’m talking about kcOldPops!! None of us CHIEFS fans need to be reminded of the damn texas symbol on the helmut….I’m with you, use an appropriate ‘throwback’.

      Comment by Mike — March 28, 2009 @ 6:34 pm

    29. look dallas has a star on thier helment now we all khnow that kc is kc not dallas but it is just for a few games not all of them and all of those teams including the raiders chargers titans pats and jets brocos and all of the other teams back in the day befor any of you guys or myself inculed were born some of you may have been born back befor they moved to kc and besides its not like they r moving back to texas they are in kc to stay now i don’t here any of the other teams fans coming on to a site for kc fans and crying about this so once more quit your crying or go cheer for some other team………..

      Comment by michael diedrich — March 31, 2009 @ 9:13 am

    30. Just because we don’t exactly agree with the emblem on the helmut doesn’t mean we are not CHEIFS FANS!!!! Why all the hate? I was born the year they won the superbowl and still own my jacket that is 39 years old. I was born in Kansas and will ALWAYS BE A CHIEFS FAN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY. Are you some of kind of ‘expert’ or judge or what? This is a board that is full of individual opinions…so me and some other guy not liking the choice of emblem has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU..we are all entitled to our opinions, but some like you prefer the immature expression of feelings. Why don’t you go root for the faiders or the cowgirls? You could…

    32. I hate the idea of our team wearing some other states uniforms. This is what is wrong with K. C.half of the fans don’t even know when they are being dissed.
