[Kansas City.com] Tony Gonzalez appears likely to finish his playing career with the Chiefs. Larry Johnson and Brian Waters could receive their publicly stated wishes to finish theirs elsewhere.
Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said Monday during a break at the NFL meetings that the Chiefs had decided to hold on to Gonzalez, their longtime Pro Bowl tight end. Hunt also said decisions regarding Johnson and Waters haven’t been made but added that either or both could return to play for the Chiefs this season.
The three veteran players have been unhappy with the Chiefs at various times and for different reasons. Gonzalez has said he would like the chance to play for a Super Bowl contending team and asked last fall for a trade.
After last season’s trading deadline – and since then – Gonzalez softened his position some, taking a wait-and-see attitude regarding the Chiefs’ offseason moves before deciding whether he would again request a trade.
Johnson and Waters have both asked to be traded this offseason.

Honestly Id like to keep all three..You would have to believe that they could help this team make it to the playoffs even this season..However if we get rid of Johnson we better get something sweet in exchange. Something that can be an immediate impact on this Chiefs team.

We have to keep Gonzalez because…mark my words…he`s going to have a monster year…plus im sure he`s happy now with some of the acquisitions we got this offseason, plus the draft is still to come. It would be nice to keep Waters because he`s an all pro and a leader in the locker room so i say keep this f`n guy happy, he deserves it. As for LJ, i think they are going to try and keep him as well and use him and Charles just like they used James and Hightower in Arizona. He`s just gotta stop being a baby, grow a pair and play some football. I had enough of him and hopefully these coaches could change his attitude.
p.s. there is no reason why they dont draft curry 3rd…he`s an immediate impact player and a soon to be perennial pro bowler. gonna be a good year!

All three of those players are likely to be far more valuable on the team than anything we’d get in return. Waters is the only one that may fetch a respectable return. People fear Tony’s age and retirement comments too much, despite still being the best receiving tight end in the league. Larry has obvious off-field and team chemistry issues (and a large contract) that scare off any significant investment by another team.

I still think LJ is gone on draft day.
Waters and Gonzo I would like to see stay though.

Sweet you say huh! How would you like the BROWNS 2nd rnd pick. This works great for both teams BROWNS need a RB and the draft is weak in that area. Chiefs need O-line help and the pass first offense is in place so PERFECTION.

JEFF FROM JERSEY I think the LIONS will ruin the year for us and take the sure thing in the draft. Reason after so many years of DRAFTING the “great” WR in the first round and the fact that they have two first round picks. I think they will be the ones to screw us.

RAIDERSLAYER I hope not man…i like curry alot and if the lions do take him, i heard the chiefs worked out orakpo. So they might trade down and take him, and i know we need a DE but i dunno how i feel about him. DJ is my favorite player but these texas guys are treated like babies over there. On the other hand, i guess pioli knows a thing or two about drafting so we`ll see what happens.

There is rumor the lions are already negotiating a contract with their pick. I don’t believe that would be the case if they were planning to take a defensive player. Stafford is the likely pick, with the Rams needing to fill the slot vacated by Pace, leaving Curry for us. Curry tore up the combine and would be an immediate impact player. I can’t imagine trading down with the needs that we currently have. Orakpo is a concern for me based on the hamstring injury he suffered during the combine. He didn’t even get a drill completed. Could be fine, could be a lingering issue (hamstring injuries SUCK!!).
LJ to anyone for a pick above the 4th round is a win as far as I am concerned. I consider LJ and TO one in the same, and I would NEVER want that deuche. I would like to keep Waters. You have to think that he just doesn’t want to go out on a line performing the way they have. He was a vital part of the solid line we had for years, not to mention being a great character guy.
