[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs agreed to contract terms today with veteran offensive lineman Mike Goff. Goff has some versatility and could wind up starting for the Chiefs at center or right guard.

The 33-year-old Goff played 11 NFL seasons, the first six with Cincinnati and the last five with San Diego.

    2. Way to go the youngest to the oldest team in the NFL over night.

    3. Come on Scott let’s get some more old guys with 1 or 2 years left way to go good job boy this year is gonna suck!!!

    4. these types of pick ups are going to make the drafting process a lot easier for scott pioli. good pickup, but this doesnt neccessarily mean that brian waters is gone like some are sayin.

if he does stay, just think our O-line is actually starting to look kind of decent now: LT-B.Albert LG-B.Waters C-R.Niswanger RG-M.Goff RT-D.McIntosh TE-T.Gonzalez. we will still need to draft someone to fill McIntosh’s spot, probably with our third round pick.

    5. at RT why not give a shot at Richardson ?

    6. This is a good signing because it C/G is a position that needs to be filled now, and Goff can do this for a year a two and protect Cassell while he develops.
Does anyone know what happened to Herb Taylor? He seemed to fill in pretty good for Albert/D-Mac (which should be D-Sack)?

    7. Good signing. Makes a lot of sense!

    8. Great signing. A likely upgrade at RG, while adding another option/backup at C. Doesn’t hurt our cap now or in the future. There’s absolutely no downside to the signing, so some of you need to get a grip.

We sign a couple guys over 30 and some of you are freaking out? How did it work out last year having a bunch of 22-24 year olds doing everything with very little veteran leadership? The best teams have balance. You need young up and comers, steady veterans and leaders, and guys in their prime. Just look at the type of free agents the patriots always sign.

    9. Anyone remember when we signed Willie Roaf…? Everyone in the league said he was a washed up fool, and look what he did for our line leadership. Granted we had Roaf, Shields, and Waters, along w/ Wiegmannnnnnnnn (who we should have never let go) and I think we had Johnny Tait (who we should have never let go, but I think he hated the Chiefs anyways, lol)

Anyways, my point is vets work on the o-line. And they help the younger guys…aka Waters at the time was a youngster and now he is a bad ass..sort of. Idk, like VLTC said “there’s absolutely no downside to the signing…”

      Peace..

    10. Oh and don’t forget we had a the best running game because of it…

    11. This is a fantastic signing. No one questions when the Patriots sign “older” players. Our most productive years were behind an aging offensive line. I also think Waters will be more interested in staying now.

I think we should all pay attention to what is happening right now. This is the beginning of a building process that will have us successful sooner than you may think.

    12. Last year we had a very young and inexperienced team.
When you all worked at your first job was the guy training you at work there less than a week?
NFL Not For Long…. but we are signing guys past their 30s. Im not saying that they are going to make a splash. Just saying that they have been in the league for a while and have produced on some level enough to be a 30s still playing football. Sounds like they did something right?
So we may not be getting younger but we are getting football players. Last time i checked a roster is made up of those. Some “stars” as you may see them but there are alot more just football players on a roster.

    13. Goff blocked for LT the last 5 years, I believe there’s a rushing record in there so what are you people being negative about? You b**ch when we don’t sign people and then you b**ch when we do, go be a Bills fan and follow your role model T.O. around. If you can’t look to the positives of our team, then it’s simple, go be a fan elsewhere!! We don’t need you!!

      Comment by H20 — March 25, 2009 @ 11:04 pm

    14. How could some of you guys think this is bad? If it was a 33 year old cornerback it would be not so good, but a 33 year old Offensive Lineman (Pro Bowler Mike Goff) has got a lot of mileage left (can you say Will Shields or Wille Roaf?). Besides, this also means that we are definitely not drafting for offense with our first pick. Give us Aaron Curry, this is what members of the Red Death require.

    15. I enjoy that we are adding good valuable players that will help with leadership and depth. Two things that this team has lacked.

    17. Be negative, say what you will but I like the way Pioli is keeping the youth and adding seasoned, proven pro bowl caliber veterans to the team. I like the direction in which he is taking the franchise.

great comment about Damion “SACk”Intosh, that guy was terrible last year and was way over paid. the other comment about B.Richardson might be worth a look, that guy is huge and needs some experience. but i still think we will draft for a RT in april.

Oh and remember the draft is now less than 30 days away.

    21. Herb Taylor should be mentioned somewhere. He did a fine job at LT, RT and RG. I dont see a reason why he shouldnt get a look at one of those positions on the right side of the O-Line.

      Comment by JRock in Texas — March 26, 2009 @ 5:26 pm

    22. I think Herb will be our starting right tackle.

Our line should be Albert, Waters, Niswanger (unless we draft someone here), Goff, Taylor

I think that looks good as hell, unless we draft a right tackle who is a high pick then have Taylor for backup duty which is very much essential w/ lineman. He can play anything put the center position and is a stud at them. We also have Wade Smith who played good for us at RG and Center, so he might beat our Rudy.

    24. Pioli has now gone on record as saying that he will not trade B.Waters. so the only player he has yet to say this about is LJ. i think thats not a good sign for his future in KC. but if we start winning a lot of the problems LJ was having last year will disappear.

      Comment by KC111110 — March 26, 2009 @ 11:34 pm

    25. KC,
I think that if we can get a third for LJ or third value in a package deal then Pioli will trade him. But I do not know of many teams that would want him (browns?) so maybe he will stay and take off his diaper.
P.S. I am excited about this draff being less than a month away. Last year’s draft was the highlight of the season. Hopefully this one would be equally as good, but the regular season won’t be a complete flop.

    27. I know Sackintosh put a bad taste in everyones mouth for the first 2/3 of the season, but he really started to improve at the end, believe it or not. Maybe he just needed/needs time to learn the intricacies of the right side. Of course, it would be great if a young Taylor developed into a starter, but I think most of you have a idea of Herb’s abilities that he hasn’t yet proved on the field. The few times he was on the field, he was committing a lot of penalties.

I’m still hopeful on Herb, but the jury’s still out.

    29. My favorite todd haley quote “check my resume, the best player will play” this was said at the owners/coaches/GM meeting in Dana Point,CA when he was asked if M.Cassel would be our starter next season. remember when M.Leinhart got benched for K.Warner, and everyone thought he was crazy. but in reality thats how you have to coach or players wont be motivated to get better.

Then remember how before the pre-season even started H.Edwards/C.peterson named B.Croyle the starter without even competing against D.Huard, this would be an example of not how to coach. Or what about when at the time “hot-handed” Huard got benched for a concusion prone T.Green two games before the playoff game in Indy?

Anyway you look at it this coach knowshow to make the hard choices and how to get the most out of his players even if it takes him yelling in their face in front of the whole world to see. So no more Mr.NiceHeadCoach in KC, but thats just the way i like it.

    30. Actually, Trent Green started the last 7 games of the 2006 season. However, I agree with your overall assessment.

    31. DRAFT NEWS :
The chiefs have reportedly set up a pre-draft interview to meet with A.Curry next week. Since the chiefs did set a record low for sacks last year this guy could have a huge impact next year if we take him at the #3 spot. Not too mention he had a great combine/pro-day and has been called by many the best overall player in the draft.

    32. I still like Curry and the Goff pu, but not sure Curry will be there at 3. The Rams and Lions are also meeting with him.

33 is young. I’m 37 and I can still….well 37 is old unless you are Kurt Warner.
I love it when we sign our rival’s players. The best was Marcus Allen. Is Al Davis still alive? GO CHIEFS! DRAFT DRAFT DRAFT DRAFT

Chiefs among teams taking interest in Curry
Posted: News | Steve Wyche | Tags: Aaron Curry, Alphonso Smith, Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Draft

Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry might not be available when the Kansas City Chiefs pick third overall in next month’s NFL draft, but they’re doing their due diligence in case he falls to them.

Curry has a private workout scheduled with the Chiefs on April 2-3, then an interview with them on April 14-15. The double-dipping comes after Kansas City scouted Curry at the combine in February and his pro day at Wake Forest earlier this week.

As of now, Curry has met with or has workouts/interviews set up with teams that hold the top six picks.

Curry already has met with the Detroit Lions, who hold the first overall selection in the April 25-26 draft. The Cleveland Browns, who have the No. 5 pick, are staging a private workout with Curry on Saturday in Winston-Salem, where Wake Forest is located. Curry will meet with the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 6 pick) on Monday and Tuesday and the St. Louis Rams (No. 2 pick) on April 15-16.

Curry’s Wake Forest teammate, CB Alphonso Smith, has scheduled visits with the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. Smith, who had an Atlantic Coast Conference career-record 21 interceptions at Wake Forest, is projected to be a late first-round, early second-round selection.

    34. Josh: I think there’s a much better chance we’ll see more from Herb Taylor this year. He’s played snaps at every line position except C, and in goal line sets he played TE. Actually his size makes him best suited to play C, and he’s got the brain to do it too (C is definitely not a position where you can have a brain dead Ryan Clady type). Niswanger, who is basically a Mike Goff clone, is a little too tall to be a top flight C. He does very well given that limitation, but four or five years of taking hits with poor leverage will probably result in back injuries. We would do well to move him back to RG.

Regarding Wade Smith, he was the worst player on the roster in 2008. Not Pat Thomas. Not Dmitri Patterson. Not even Tom Gafford. Wade Smith. Never in my life did I think I would see a lineman that made me long for Jonathan Ingram or Tré Stallings, but Wade Smith is that guy.
