[KC Chiefs.com] The Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has signed unrestricted free agent TE Sean Ryan.
Ryan has played in 43 games during his five-year NFL career with Dallas, the N.Y. Jets, Miami, New Orleans and San Francisco.
The Chiefs also announced on Tuesday that the club had waived T Andrew Carnahan, LB Curtis Gatewood and WR Kevin Robinson.

oh oh looks like gonzo is no longer going to be a chief.man this blows:(
Comment by daniel — April 21, 2009 @ 3:44 pm
i have one more question maybe someone out there can answer for me…What are his stats and was he even a starter???
Comment by daniel — April 21, 2009 @ 3:48 pm
so it looks like we will be trading down from this years #3 spot, hopefully Tony G isnt part of that trade. The best case scenario would be getting Denver to trade up so that they can take M.Sanchez before Seatle has the chance to. If they were to do that Tony G isnt going to a AFC west rival.
Comment by KC111110 — April 21, 2009 @ 4:20 pm
I think we got tonys replacement last year in the draft and now we sign a te days before the draft tony will be gone draft day probably to the falcons for there 2nd rounder which really is good but i think its a last 2nd
Comment by dirt — April 21, 2009 @ 4:53 pm
There is no way Tony Gonzalez gets traded to any AFC West team. I dont even think Herm or Peterson would have made a bonehead move like that. I think if they trade TG its to a bonofide Superbowl contender. Reality I dont even think the Falcons are a “bonofide” SuperBowl contender. It would be someone like the Eagles.
Comment by OhioChiefsFan — April 21, 2009 @ 5:25 pm
We will not trade Tony Gonzalez!!! This is probably more of a blocking TE.
Comment by beeasy — April 21, 2009 @ 5:33 pm
Tony is going to the Patriots….Patriots are great at selling there picks. I expect it to be here from now till draft day. Love ya tony, Get that ring

has played in 43 games (seven starts) during his five-year NFL career with Dallas (2004-05), the N.Y. Jets (2006-07), Miami (2008), New Orleans (2008) and San Francisco (2008). He has caught 12 passes for 105 yards (8.8 avg.). He saw action in one playoff contest with the N.Y. Jets in 2006. The Buffalo, New York native originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round selection (144th overall) of Dallas in the 2004 NFL Draft.

Here is some news for you all………
The Kansas City Chiefs have waived offensive tackle Andrew Carnahan, linebacker Curtis Gatewood and wide receiver/kick returner Kevin Robinson. Because all three players have less than four years of NFL service, they will have to pass through waivers before they become unrestricted free agents.
Comment by JRock in Texas — April 21, 2009 @ 7:54 pm
This doesn’t mean they are trading Tony, it means they’re getting prepared for any scenario. This regime’s diligence continues to impress me…
…unlike the last regime who let our top two pass rushers go without a single replacement (traded away Jared Allen and let Jimmy Wilkerson walk).
Of course, this guy is no Tony G. and will likely not even see the field, but at least they’re getting their depth chart in order just in case.
Comment by VLTC — April 21, 2009 @ 9:09 pm
tony g isn’t going anywhere at all and thats is that case closed he will be a chief this next year and get that ring with the chiefs not the pats or the eagels so everyone think real hard do you want tony out of kc and have to pay for it later when we play the eagals this next year or not
Comment by michael diedrich — April 21, 2009 @ 11:27 pm
What about Chase Coffman? TE from Missouri

Herm: Chiefs should pick Curry
Herm Edwards gave his endorsement of Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry as his choice for the Chiefs’ top pick in the upcoming draft.
“The linebacker is a good pick for them,” Edwards said. “An offensive lineman is a good pick for them, the kid from Virginia (Eugene Monroe). The kid from Texas (Brian Orakpo) is kind of a unique guy, too. But if the linebacker is sitting there, he a good player now. He comes in and plays. He’s going to play right away. He’s a heck of a football player.”
Okay, I’ve been on the Aaron Curry bandwagon from day one…but Herm’s approval of him just jinxed this entire thing. This is the same Herm that thought Brodie Croyle and Justin Medlock were good picks, right?
Comment by Kcchiefs19692003 — April 22, 2009 @ 12:17 am
I don’t approve of Tony G leaving but on draft day he will be gone. I’m not saying this Sean Ryan guy will replace him…this guy blows a fat sack of crap and is a “blocking TE” so he doesn’t matter right now unless he is as good as Jason Dunn was back in his day.
About Kevin Robinson leaving…I’m kind of upset about this only because I use him on madden 09 to return punts and he is fantastic! But he sucks in real life so I guess madden can step aside for now. Lol.
We don’t “need” Curry. Here’s what I hope for…#1-Aaron Curry-Detroit, #2-Jason Smith/Eugene Monroe-St. Louis, #3-Trade to Denver, Jets, or anyone who wants a freaking QB called Matthew Stafford….then we get picks!! No one player will fix us…we need a lot in the first 3 rounds and then a “lucky” pick in the 6th and 7th rounds.
Comment by Josh — April 22, 2009 @ 12:37 am
I think that Cottom is our new TE.
Comment by Bill — April 22, 2009 @ 7:15 am
I like Cottam and think he will do great under Haley’s system. The guy has good hands, some speed, and is big. If we trade Tony we’ll be fine at tight end (not Tony G. good) but good nontheless. If we trade up it better be worth it.
Comment by Rocky — April 22, 2009 @ 8:37 am
I really have a feeling we’re going to take m.crabtree at #3, because a team in desprite times can use an electric rookie to make big plays. And by doing this we will most likely need to keep tony G and then just think of our offense:
QB’s m.cassel, t.thigpen.
RB’s l.johnson, j.charles.
WR’s d.bowe, m.crabtree, b.engram, m.bradley, j.webb.
TE’s t.gonzo, b.cottam.
And i truely feel now that our team could manage without the one they call GONZO. and if we do trade him it better be for more than just a 2nd rounder, he’s worth more then that.
And c.coffman (Mizz) would be a good fit in KC, him and j.macklin were way more productive in that offense then w.franklin ever was.
PIOLI : GO GET CRABTREE ! ! ! !
Comment by KC111110 — April 22, 2009 @ 8:40 am
Coffman is an outstanding receiving TE. I would love to pick him up. Cottam didn’t do much receiving in his college days. New guy was on 5 teams in 5 years. That can’t be too good. But Pioli and Haley know way more than we do.
KC111110 – I hope your not too disappointed when we don’t pick Crabtree. I think we’re going to get Curry or Orakpo.
I think Nicks from UNC may be the best receiver in the draft. He can catch anything, anywhere. Great Hands, good at getting of the line, but only avg speed. He reminds me of TG the way he catches the ball. I got to watch him on TV a few times this year over here on the east coast and I can remember thinking, it would be nice for the Chiefs to get this guy.
Comment by Jeff in VA — April 22, 2009 @ 10:01 am
Lions are in the final stages of signing m.stafford. the deal could get done by the end of the night. so this causes us to turn our attention to #2 . . . and the Rams are now on the clock.
Bad news, nobody looks interested enough to try and trade up. So we will be stuck with only one pick in the first two rounds. but doesnt anyone remember that we had 13 picks in last years draft. the numbers of picks doesnt always equate to good players.
So we might want to think twice before we trade tony G. We souldnt want to have another j.allen situation on our hands.

the lions have a contract set for curry if stafford doesnt sign he has till the 25th

Either way, we should take an electrifying offensive player, one that we’ve been lacking since d.hall (the X-factor) went to st. louis, granted he had pretty much fizzled out by then.
So my suggestions :
m.crabtree, j.macklin, d.heyward-bey, p.harvin
Comment by KC111110 — April 22, 2009 @ 7:39 pm
Sorry Folks,
Tony will be traded soon! There’s been way to much smoke for it not to happen, and now there is actually some fire! Deal with it Chiefs fans! Tony has been great, and will return some day as a Chief when he goes into Canton, but we have never won a playoff game with him, so let’s get some more picks for him and move on. Plus, it’s what Tony wants. Sorry!

This really sux man, Ive got like 2 jerseys that I can wear of players that are still here. And both want out. L.J. and tony. Priest is long gone, there goes three jerseys, Dante is even longer gone, there goes another 1, and the DT jersey is for special occasions only. Another $80 bucks I have to spend. rediculous

Get a Jersey that says “Kansas City” on the back instead of a name. Save your money in the near future

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES, EAGLES, EAGLES
At 33 years old, a second or a third round pick would be a lot to give up for Gonzo… but the fact is that he’s still probably the best TE in all of football and one of the greats to ever play the position. He would absolutely represent the major offensive weapon that many Eagles fan are hoping to add this offseason.
Comment by Kcchiefs19692003 — April 22, 2009 @ 11:20 pm
chief fogg-
You lucked out on the Priest Holmes Jersey, so did I because he stayed with the Chiefs until he retired. My brother had just bought a Jared Allen jersey a few months before he got sent to Minnesota. In our Club, one must burn the jersey of whatever player plays for another team. Years ago I saw a guy at a game with an old Neil Smith jersey on, this is when he was playing for Denver. So, the guy just put a big ass piece of black tape over Smith on the back of the jersey. That too is acceptable. It is also acceptable to once again wear the Gonzalez jersey when and after he retires as a Chief, but not when he is playing for another team. I realize this is not everyone’s feeling, just saying what my group feels about this subject.

I hope he finds what he’s looking for. I also hope he misses out on a superbowl here in KC.
With that said, I hope he comes back when he retires to go in the HOF as a Chief.
Comment by Jeff in VA — April 23, 2009 @ 1:59 pm
We didn’t want to play him this season. And now I bet we get curry with the third pick and then coffman with the 3rd round pick. If this is the plan I see it happening for the best. It would be nice to get more top talent o-linemen in the draft, but maybe they are thinking of more shotgun and running with larry a lot. It could work. Sad day to say the least. His number should be retired after this season as I expect Atlanta to barely make the playoffs. He got what he asked for and this will certainly make this season interesting and not necessarily in a good way.

I have the noose set, now someone come kick my chair! DADDY I TOLD YOU I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE KC! YOU DIDN’T LISTEN!!
Anyways, good luck to you Gonzo, much love & respect!

No tears shed over this one, this is a business and thats what most fans can never realize. This deal was obviously done with the best interest in the team. If you look back at how t.haley used TE’s in ARI t.gonzo wouldnt have like it. Plus does anybody realize that we never won a playoff game while t.gonzo was on our team?
But if ya ask me the falcons are about as close to making the SB next year as we are. so, tony i wish you the best of health but also wish that you be less productive than you were here.
Comment by KC111110 — April 23, 2009 @ 2:19 pm
This is a good trade. He didn’t want to be a part of a spread offense that wasn’t going to feature him like past Chiefs offenses. I now raise the question….is Brian Waters next?
Comment by David in VA — April 23, 2009 @ 2:29 pm
This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tony was always so consistent… who the heck is going to replace a weapon like that… besides, i was hoping for him to retire a Chief… well, I hope Pioli knows what he’s doing…
Comment by hrivera — April 23, 2009 @ 2:32 pm
Very sad day for me, for all us Chiefs fans. I knew it was gonna happen but I was denying it. I really dont think a pick for next year is worth it. We need holes filled starting this season. I dont know. Its good for Tony and I wish him the best, and I hope he comes back to KC to retire in Red and Gold. Pioli must have something in the works because I just find it hard to believe he would let a sure bet, a great weapon for Cassell to leave without having someone in mind to replace him. Possibly Boldin, or Edwards from the Browns? Maybe Crabtree? Anythings possible as we all know.

Am I wrong?
I’m with post #37…Atlanta?!?! You’re kidding, right Tony?! How are they SO much more superior than us and what we’re doing right now? Oh, if I were betting on who was going to the SB next year, I’d be all over the Falcons, yeah right!!!!
He’s always been amazing, and his jersey was the best $80 I ever spent (about a hundred years ago it seems
), but I’ve been EXTREMELY disgusted with his seemingly nasty attitude as of late…and the crap he pulled mid-season was stupid as well.
He’ll regret it!
