[Kansas City.com] Frank Gansz, who served as the Chiefs head coach during 1987-88 has died, the club announced Monday night. He was 70.
Gansz’s teams went 4-11 and 4-11-1 before he was replaced by Marty Schottenheimer in 1989.
Gansz’s real forte was as a special teams’ coach. He served as the Chiefs’ special teams coach in 1981 and 1982 and again in 1986.
Gansz’s son, Frank, Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps and served as Kansas City’s special teams coach from 2001-05.

Life is hard; it’s harder if you’re stupid.
John Wayne
I can remember the Chiefs firing John Mackovich because a group of veteran players were tired of his hard practices and went to Jack(Ass) Steadman, and got Mackovich fired and Ganz hired.
Ganz was a kick ass special teams coach, and he certainly helped the Chiefs win some games via the special teams, but, as a head coach he was not good to say the least, with a two year record of 8-22-1…
R.I.P.

He was a great special teams coach, and probably shouldn’t have been a HC.
I would say the same thing for Gunther Cunningham…in his first stint w/ KC he was a great defensive coach, then got promoted to HC and…sucked…in his second stint w/ KC…Herm hindered how he would have liked to have run his defense…I think Gunther will be successful, after a couple of season of course, with Detroit.

The same for Herm Edwards…good defensive coach, just not Head Coach material!
