[Kansas City.com] The shakeup of the Chiefs’ scouting department continued with the firing of vice president Bill Kuharich, who was responsible for their pro and college scouting.
Kuharich joined the Chiefs in 2000 as their pro personnel director. He was given oversight of the draft three years ago when the Chiefs hired Herm Edwards as their head coach.
The Chiefs on Monday fired most members of their college scouting department, including director Chuck Cook.
When he was hired in January, general manager Scott Pioli was given wide latitude to create a personnel team around him, and he used it. Kuharich, Cook and many of the Chiefs’ former scouts were well-respected around the league.

damn cleaning house over there. whose next?

Vince, holy moley man.
I find it comical that you call them ‘idiots’ when can’t even spell “idiots”…

I think he means the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Hey Vince, the team needs are pass rush you idiot. Haven’t you noticed that we have been stockpiling Linebackers? Hello!!! we got Derrick Johnson, Zach Thomas, Monty Beisel, Corey Mays, and Mike Vrabel. That’s a hell of a rotation. The last half of the season we were putting up almost 30 points a game, it was our defense that always lost the game for us. I would have been very bummed if we took Crabtree (dude is injury prone too).
Comment by Chief Tom — April 30, 2009 @ 12:59 pm
I forgot to add Demario Williams. They may not be the best group of LB’s but there is a lot of experience there, and to counter some of the older age athletes we have several LB’s to rotate so they won’t tire as easy.

WOW ALOT OF SPECULATION OF NOT TAKING CURRY WELL HERES A NOTE FOR ALL TAKE CRABTREE UM WE STILL HAVE D-BOWE WE NEED A LEGIT #2 RECEIVER WHICH WE CAN TRADE FOR OR FREE AGENCY WHY WOULD WE NEED 2 #1 RECEIVERS LOOK AT ARIZONAS DELEMA
2ND AS CHIEF TOM SAID ANOUTHER LB WOULD BE INSANE NO NEED FOR IT AND THE REASON WE GOT RID OF GONZO IS TO BE BETTER OVERALL NOT JUST THIS YEAR NEXT YEAR ETC… LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE NOT THE LITTLE ONE YES WE ALL WANTED TO SEE TRADES BUT THE SEASON ISNT HERE YET NORE ARE WE DONE YET THERES STILL BRIAN WATERS AND GRAND MAMA TO USE TO TRADE
WHAT WE SHOULD BE QUESTIONING IS WHY WE LET GO OF WILL FRANKLIN AND BOBBIE SIPPIO BUT OTHER THAN THAT LET THE COACHES AND STAFF DO THERE PART REMEMBER HERM THE WORM ISNT HERE NO MORE LET US GROW AND GET TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH A WIN AND BE ABLE TO REPEAT RAIDER HATER FOR LIFE

Rick,
Will Franklin came into camp overweight. Thats why we let him go. It was said that he came in the same way as Mike Williams did when he was with Detroit. Sippio has been gone since the beginning of last year during the Herm Edwards error. I think that Mark Bradley did a good job when he came in last year. Keep in mind that Mark Bradley was the third and sometimes the 4th option in the offense. Thats just my opinion.
Comment by JRock in Texas — April 30, 2009 @ 2:24 pm
Oh. You all forgot to add Tamba Hali at LB. He is suppose the play both End and LB. Good luck to him and all the Chiefs.

Remember people, there will be a lot of good WR’s cut or released between now and September.
Who knows what kind of deals Pioli is working on.

I just think its kinda funny how people are all about instant gratification, i mean seriously how can you evaluate how good a draft class is before any of them have even had a chance to practice on the proffesional level?
If you really want to grade a draft class just look back 2 years ago and start grading, but for now just be happy with the players that we got and hope for the best. Thats really all you can do as a sports fan.
I mean seriously this draft had been mentioned as being one of the worst overall talent pools in the past years, so i would not be surprised if in the next 2 yrs that 6 out of the top 10 picks (m.stafford, m.crabtree, a.curry, d.heyward-bey, a.smith, & bj.raji) dont all turn out to be busts.

mark bradley should be good this year as well as darling but a still think we need a #2 receiver which we should be able to get with free agency also i wouldn’t mind looking at ashley lelie he has good speed and good hands,he might work out with us but on a better note all hail chiefs

The off season is not over yet. Let’s wait to see if Pioli makes more moves. I think Jackson is a good fit, even though I wanted Curry. I’m not upset with it. He was rated best player for 3-4 D in the draft.
Comment by Jeff in VA — April 30, 2009 @ 4:42 pm
Rumor–Pioli is interest in Jason Taylor.
Comment by Jeff in VA — April 30, 2009 @ 4:48 pm
To play the Devils Advocate, wasn’t Kuharic then responsible for last years draft???? The best we’ve ever had. Just saying
Comment by Dave S — April 30, 2009 @ 4:59 pm
Pioli wants his own people, can you blame him? If you surround yourself with people that think like you (especially if you’re a genious) then good things can happen. Let’s just hope that Pioli IS a draft genious!! I wanted Curry, but useing our first two picks on D-line is really what we needed. Maybe we can sack a QB this year!! I honestly can’t say that I know anything about the people we drafted but I’m going to stay hopeful and wait until next year before I say a single bad word about our new leaders.
Herm & Carl took us to rock bottom (thank you), only improvement waits ahead of us!!
Comment by H20 — April 30, 2009 @ 8:47 pm
I understand why we took Jackson, just think passing up on Curry, labeled by most as the best player in the draft, was a mistake.
As for WR, if Bradley stays healthy, he is a legit #2. We should also have the opportunity to pick up a couple from free agency before the season starts. I really think we need a quality slot receiver to open up the outside. Wouldn’t hurt to have a receiving tight end…..oh…. (still scratching my head!!!)
Comment by Travis — April 30, 2009 @ 9:37 pm
Why is everyone so uppity about QB sacks?
I still say if a team can’t run on you and you have a good secondary good things will happen.
I would much rather see an opposing teams RB stuffed at or behind the line of scrimmage or a pass intercepted, the sacks will eventually come when these things happen.
Comment by Kansas City Krusher — April 30, 2009 @ 9:42 pm
Maybe we just need another season on HBO’s Hard Knocks to get this thing turned around.
Comment by Dave S — May 1, 2009 @ 9:17 am
It’s about time!! Kuharich was a joke! And in way over his head!!
Comment by Goldzone — May 1, 2009 @ 6:15 pm
Jeff, where did you hear about the interest that Pioli has in Jason Taylor? It would awesome to pick him up for both rotating with TJ and also teaching him how to kick ass.
I doubt JT would want to go to the “lowly” Chiefs but who knows..
Damn I hope every analyst doesn’t call us the “lowly” Chiefs again this year like they did last year. Jesus that was annoying and f*(&ing depressing to hear that every game last year!!!
Comment by RedNGold4LIFE — May 2, 2009 @ 8:55 am
Vince, you really need to go back to school and learn how to spell.
This is a good thing here and i like it because look where the old staff has gotten us over the past several years for one thing, so i am happy to see all these guys go and i like watching pioli make the neccessary changes throughout the entire organization to proven guys that he knows well and has existing relationships that knows what each other expects and what it takes to become winners.I also believe we still have alot of good surprises ahead of us during this offseason.
RUMOR- there is also a rumor on espn insider that the chiefs are talking about possibly aqiring Bolden from arizona and possibly talking about james now that he has been released, what do you think?
Comment by VEGAS CHIEF — May 2, 2009 @ 2:31 pm
Edgerin James?????? I hope not! That guy last year could not run through a 5 lane highway even if it was empty!!! He sucks! LJ with all his troubles is still head over heals way better than James!
