[Kansas City.com] Lamar Hunt gave the Super Bowl its name. So it was only fitting that the Pro Football Hall of Fame named its tribute to the Super Bowl in honor of Hunt.

The Hall of Fame announced Monday that it will honor Hunt with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 8 and formally open the new Lamar Hunt Super Bowl gallery at the shrine in Canton, Ohio.

Hunt is credited with naming the Super Bowl, taking the idea from a popular toy at the time, the super ball.

The Lamar Hunt Super Bowl Gallery – a $2.4 million renovation and modernization project – will be dedicated solely to the Super Bowl.

“This is a tremendous honor for our family and a meaningful tribute to my father’s contributions to the NFL’s showcase event,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement.
