[Yahoo Sports] Quarterback Matt Cassel could miss two to four weeks with a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, a source within the Kansas City Chiefs organization said.
Cassel, who the Chiefs acquired in a trade with New England this offseason, was hurt Saturday night in an exhibition game against Seattle. The injury is not expected to require surgery because MCL injuries usually heal on their own.
However, the injury means Cassel could miss the Chiefs’ season opener at Baltimore on Sept. 13.
Cassel also suffered an ankle injury, but that was not considered as serious as the MCL injury.

As a diehard chiefs fan since 1997 I have come to expect this kind of news when it comes to the health of our players. I know it’s very early to say this but it seems as though we are destined to be the red headed step child. I don’t know why we can’t we put everything together just once and compete for a championship like I know that we can. As a chiefs fan it is becoming more and more frustrating as ever year goes by. However, I will always be a chiefs fan no matter what our record is but it is becoming harder ever year to stay by their side. I guess that’s what being a diehard fan is all about (You live and die by your team). I just wish the chiefs would stop killing me half way through the season. Hopefully, Matt will be ok but this isn’t a great way to start the year and we already have a lot of question marks on offense. To be honest I never thought Matt Cassel was going to be the one to lead the chiefs to the promise land but it’s still very early. Lets just pray for more than 2 wins this year.
