Hey, final word on Haley...

I'm just worried about his ability to be our head coach...

Remember at the Pro-Bowl last year when somebody from the Cardinals told Tony G that Haley was pretty much a jackxss? Well that's tolerable as an O-C, but as the H-C, his level of volatility effects EVERYONE.

He's not a total douche! (sp?) He could stay around, as O-C, like when Gun was D-C then became H-C. and then left but soon came back to be D-C again. Really, I'm serious. I mean that's cool...the AFC team's O-C that went to last year's Super Bowl is our O-C--that is pretty exciting, sounds good to me...

He's doing too much right now as both, and that's what has probably been harder on us than our schedule.

Yes Jeff, we all want the ring. Our Chiefs deserve a ring!! Do you really think I meant that our players DON'T want a ring and ONLY want to win the division?!? I was speaking in terms of this season and the next...if we won our division then of course we would be in the playoffs and we would then be able to compete for a championship. That would be so amazing, I can't wait for that to happen, and it will...but to get me through right now, I just want a win and to build on that. To insinuate that I don't think the guys want a championship is ludacris. You are trying WAY too hard to undermine me.

Todd Haley's 'style and passion'...that's one way to put it... Is firing your offensive coordinator right before the season starts and changing up the offense at the same time expecting the players to pick up on it immediately, consistant with 'style'? If so, he's got it! And yes, cussing and giving dirty looks is certainly a form of passion, so you're right about that!

Please stop throwing in the "lost against good teams" remark. Last year we played the NFC South (Atlanta went to playoffs, Carolina went to playoffs, Saints are the bomb) and the AFC East (Brett Favre's Jets, The friggin' Pats, the Bills' explosive offense). Those teams are all better than the Cowboys that beat us last week, since they've only beat losers. Where were you last year when we had our hard-xss schedule? Or the year before that, Let me guess...blamin' Herm.

WE ALWAYS HAVE A TOUGH SCHEDULE....ALWAYS

Maybe, as you said, most fans would be happy with winning the division, but I guarentee you that is not what the players and coaches want. They want the ring. That's what I want. Maybe your reading me wrong, I am not saying Haley is going to be a good or great head coach. I am saying I haven't decided yet after only 5 games against good teams and I like his style and passion.
GO CHIEFS!

Championship? Championship? Are you kiddin' me?

(said in the tone of "Playoffs? Playoffs?")

I think I speak for most all Chiefs fans...we just want to be competitive, winning our division would be great...but none of us thinks we're going to the big game this year or even next for that matter! I know we're rebuilding (again) Vol. II, Haley-style...yippee...sorry, my bad. We need someone that's gonna get us a winning season:-)

You are clearly seeing something in Haley that I am not. I am getting old all of a sudden and apparently need a hearing and vision screening! I haven't heard him take responsibility for anything, and I never heard Herm blame anybody in particular. Listening to his post-game conferences were painful becuase there's only so many times you can shine a turd... but boy, he kept trying--God love 'im. And you're sure Haley's figured that out already (who he can get the best out of through yelling and who he can't) huh, wow... that's amazing...he comes off as arrogant to me, I never once got the impression that he has figured out anything... at all...beings that he calls for LJ to run up the middle time after time after time after time...

I never once said that I have anything against the ole boot in the rear...as I stated, Gun was all about the rantin' and ravin', so was Cowher and Gruden and countless other EXPERIENCED (and available I may add) head coaches. Bring them on with their boots, please Lord, bring them boots with an experienced head coach attached to them!!

And you're right, a good coach does get the best out of the players that he has...usually through the means I mentioned such as being able to motivate and encourage them, and by bringing experience to coaching, and so on...I guess I should reply by saying that having all of the above stated qualities does not necessarily mean that you WON"T be a good head coach...???

Listen, I know you don't want to agree with me because I thought Herm got kicked when he was down. That's old news!! I'm over it, he's on ESPN now, and I don't want him back! But admitting that Haley's not head coach material doesn't mean that you like Herm any more that you didn't...right?!?

But I just want you to know, that no matter what, if it came down to you and me and some cry-baby fan of anyone other than the Chiefs, I would still tomahawk them in the back of the head if they tried to talk smack about the Chiefs to you while you were busy kicking some Raider fans xss.

I loved Marty and Vermeil, but neither one won us a championship. Smarts, experience, patience through teaching, encouraging, motivating, and capable of smiling does not necessarily mean you will be a good coach. A good coach gets the best out of the players he has. With all that said, I don't know if Haley will work out, but I am not going to give up on him after just 5 games. He's had us in 5 games against good competition.
I guess being retired from the Army and a former Drill Sgt, makes me okay with the yelling (which can be done without cursing). This world is becoming too soft. People need a boot on the butt every once in a while. My point is some people need to be yelled at to get the best out of them. Some don't. I am sure he has figured that out. And, at least he takes responsibility when he is wrong. Herm used to come out every week and blame it on the players only. He's trying to change a losing culture. At least he's passionate about his job and you can tell he really wants to win. I never got that from Herm.
A few more pieces and we'll be there. Just not going to be able to get those pieces until next year. O-line and RB must improve.

Jeff, I know our schedule has been brutal...but if you haven't noticed...it always is! Seriously! I don't know what sick twisted karma follows the Chiefs, but every year I look at their schedule and think, "Holy Crap!"... I just can't muster up the nerve to say it's our schdule, even though I may think it, people just can't hear that anymore, we've been saying that for years...

You know those 14 games we lost last year, there were like 9 or so that we lost by a score or were totally in and should've won. That was mostly our defene's fault b/c Thiggy was racking up the points 20/30+ per game. (per Gunther, per Herm's schemes)

I feel we could've won the Baltimore game with Flowers in it and maybe Cassel, although Brody surprising did okay...But the Eagles handed us our Xsses, for real. But we gave the Giants 7 points with the fumbled kickoff return right off the bat and they only beat us by 11 if I remember right, so we were in that game as well. I won't go thru the Raiders and Dallas games obviously, they're too painful.

But we're doing okay I suppose for the mass chaos that Haley has thrown at the guys. I just hate being thrown in the same pile as the Rams, b/c they have been scoreless twice and are really drowning, but to the average Joe, it looks like we suck too and you and I both know they don't, although we have a horrid o-line and no running game and some tackling issues...Cassel's done pretty good for no offensive line and no running game. We just need to add a lightning quick receiver since Cassel's only got a milli-second to get rid of the football before the line fails him.

No, I didn't think it was the right thing to fire Herm...but I made peace with it, and I understand why Clark did it, even though he gave Herm the go ahead to rebuild the team and when it got ugly (as rebuilding is) he took the man's job away...but like I said, I made peace with it, and I don't want to debate that point. But, I wasn't siked about Haley from the get-go and I'm still waiting to "feel" him, but it just (pardon the slang), ain't happenin'...Can't believe that's the best the Kansas City Chiefs can do!!!

Do you not place a pillow over your face and hide under the table in embarrassment as he rants and raves on the sidelines like a 3rd grader?!?! Can you not read his fowl-mouthed lips as he cusses out a player when they walk passed him...that is soooooo not what Chiefs fans are used to seeing. Yeah, Gunther Cunningham had a mouth, but he was also very approachable to the guys and he would praise 'em. Haley is just full of anger, cuss words, and dirty looks...How is that effective coaching?

I want a Marty/Vermeil kinda guy...smarts, leadership, experience, patience through teaching, encouraging, motivating, and capapble of smiling and telling the guys 'good job' when they NEED to hear it, not just when they deserve to hear it.

I'm not so much on Pioli's case as I am Haley's...I am thoroughly unimpressed with his irrational decisions thus far, i.e. firing Galey when he did and changing the offense for the guys when he did, as well as his unlikable demeanor. Who wants to play for a jackass? I'm with HuskerMagic, he's assistant coach, but not head coach material. I'm not just saying that b/c we're winless.

As alwaya....GO CHIEFS!!! GIVE 'EM HELL IN DC!!

And God, can we please get a few great Offensive Lineman next season? Amen.

Who wants to play for a jackass? I’m with HuskerMagic, he’s assistant coach, but not head coach material. I’m not just saying that b/c we’re winless.

As alwaya….GO CHIEFS!!! GIVE ‘EM HELL IN DC!!

And God, can we please get a few great Offensive Lineman next season? Amen.

Tammy, weren't you a Herm fan?

We hired Pioli too late and most of the head coach prospects were taken when we hired Haley. I still think he was a good choice from what was available. I'm not giving up on him yet. He has turned teams around everywhere he's been.

I think Chiefs fans were expecting too much this year. Herms mess was big. Didn't we get rid of 30 something players? You can't expect to pick up 30 quality players with that big of a turn around.

Our schedule has been brutal (minus Oakland).

chiefsfan88,

I have to disagree with you. In this day and age, rebuilding does not take a long time to do. Take the Bronco's this year or Miami last year. Both teams were as bad as the Chiefs and they turned it around in one year. I bet if Bill Parcells was here the Chiefs would not be 0-5. The bottom line is, we need to do better in the offseason, better in the draft, and stop firing all of the coaches before the season starts.

Tammy,

Denver had McDaniels signed before we got Pioli as our GM.

Also I think that we have improved a lot, and that we will continue to improve under the new regime. A rebuilding effort takes more than a year to do. Look at what Vermil did with the Eagles, Rams and us, and Parcels has done with every team (save the fins, which he turned around in a year). I know it sucks because we were told that we were rebuilding last year, but Herm just made us worse each year he was the coach. We went from 10 wins and missing the playoffs with Dick, to 9 wins and miracuosly making the playoffs with Herm: year 1, then we won 4, and then 2. That is not the way you rebuild a team. Frankly, Pioli has already made our Defense than Herm did, and he found us a talented and smart QB.

So hopefully we will continue to get better, and if that means picking up nobodies from the Patriots junk heap then I am all for it.

Pioli came from the Patriots and scouted for the Patriots, so it makes sense that he is going to get scraps from them right? Think about that. Just like Jeff in VA said, there is no one left with "talent" 5 weeks into the season.

Haley adopted the worst team in the NFL, made by the worst coach of the NFL in 2008. Do I think he is the long term answer? No, but at least he puts all the blame on himself unlike Herm "it's everybody elses fault" Edwards. He is learning, and once he learns that Jamaal Charles is 10 times better than Larry Johnson we might actually compete. Cassel is putting up pretty damn good numbers for being a "running team" (imo dumb), having a terrible RB, no time to throw, and VERY average to below average receivers. (exception Bowe)

I think its great that Clark Hunt is at least trying to turn this organization around. He gets no credit for that. Herm was not going to make us into a good team, Im sorry, but no. God no. I remember reading( by J.D. I think?) that he turned our offense which was a porsche, into an old beat up wagon. So true. Who wants to score 13 points a game? Not me. Clark did the right thing, and Im glad he wants to have a great football team. I didn't think he cared when we had Herm.

You guys are ON IT!!! Yes, Yes, Yes, and Hell Yes to the above 4 comments. Haley's lack of experience is blatently obvious at this point...it is pathetic and embarassing. "Change, Change, everybody wanted change, just wanted Herm out."

Sounds just like the election debacle doesn't it?!?! Oooh...change, change, everybody wanted change...but look what we got now...a bunch of total inexperience when major sh*t is falling apart!!

2 jobs that require experience and leadership: The president of the United States and a head coach in the NFL.

This is Lamar Hunt's baby and he had to roll over in his grave Sunday after previously rolling over a few Sundays prior during the Oakland game. C'mon Clark, you told Herm you'd stand behind him and let him rebuild this team no matter what, and you didn't. So, what's one more lie--yank Haley's wildly inexperienced, unprofessional and irratic tush at the end of this season and go after an oldie but a goodie, and I'm not talkin' Brett Favre, I'm talking a real NFL head coach. I don't care if we break 500, I still want a new head coach. This guy just isn't pleasant...

PS Did Denver already have Josh what's his face---is that why Pioli didn't grab on him? True, he has no head coaching either, but at least he smiles, right?!? (and he smiled before they were 5-0 (with they're easier schedule than hours)) :-)

Wow, lots of bad comments here. It's the middle of the season. All your going to pick up is scraps at this point. Not like there are any stars available right now. If he helps special teams, thats a plus.
Herm did a lot of damage to this team. Maybe Haley won't work out, but he's been on several teams that have turned it around. I think they are playing better than last year. They've had one tough schedule. Minus Oakland, their opponents are 14-5.

I'm starting to wander if Todd Haley is the right choice as a coach. To me he seems like a great Assistant Coach, and a mediocre Head Coach. I think we should have tried to bring in an experienced Head Coach. Are you telling me that coaches like Bill Cowher, Mike Shannahan, John Gruden, Mike Holmgren, and Marty Schottenhiemer wouldn't be interested? I just have a hard time believing Todd Haley is the best we could do. If he is sucjh an offensive geniuse, why can't we put points on the score board.

I am frustrated with this organization!

Also....... just one more thing..... I don't think this website should make fun of other team's names until we win a game.
