Cassel to Remain Starter

[Kansas City.com] Having 24 hours to watch the game video and collect his thoughts on Sunday’s blowout loss to Denver didn’t change Todd Haley’s mind on the Chiefs’ quarterback situation.

Matt Cassel, who struggled through his worst game with the Chiefs in the 44-13 loss to the Broncos, will start Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.

“I’m going to play the guys that give us the best chance to win, and Matt is one of those guys right now,” Haley said. “I feel pretty confident in Matt and his abilities, and he’ll bounce back and have another great week of preparation and give us a chance to beat Buffalo.”

Cassel completed just 10 of his 29 pass attempts for 84 yards and threw a couple of costly interceptions on back-to-back possessions in the crucial third quarter. The Chiefs began the second half trailing 14-6, but their situation unraveled quickly when the Broncos scored 20 consecutive points.

Cassel also committed two turnovers in the previous week’s game against San Diego and appears to be buckling under the pressure of trying to guide the anemic Chiefs offense.

But Haley indicated he believed Cassel was strong enough to overcome the toughest stretch of his professional career.

    3. Taht’s what Im saying, it’s hars to blame anyone because nothing is going good with our team…..if Croyle plays, they call alot more conservative plays for him and he’s alot more fragile….either way we are screwed (for a long time)

    4. Theres no reason for Cassel not to start. Hes our STARTER and hes not hurt. We might as well let him play out the rest of the season and try newer plays, to see what works and what doesnt. No better time to practice then a real game. Croyle has a stronger arm for deeper plays thats for sure, but other then that he stinks and should be released to pick up another QB similar to Cassels play style should he go down. Im still a firm believer in Haley and Piolis decisions and direction of the team.. Theres alot of Chiefs fans who comment on here as if they were picked to go to the SuperBowl this season, and were let down horribly. This season and possibly next are the Chiefs “figuring things out” year(s). I really think with this offseasons draft, FA singings and now experienced players drafted in the past 2 drafts (Dorsey, Jackson, Albert, Flowers, Carr and Charles) we can be a 8-8 team next year, maybe even surprise everyone and make a bid for playoffs. I really believe KC will be a dominant Defense before we are on Offense..Flowers, Carr, Dorsey and Jackson will be our anchors. Believe it!

    6. Let’s all remember, Herm destroyed this team. This team is now rebuilding the right way. Who gets rid of someone that has the most sacks – Herm Edwards that’s who…

    7. Reason I am giving Haley a chance….This team actually improves every game in one perspective to another
