[ESPN.com] Charlie Weis has agreed to become the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, according to team and league sources.

Weis could be named to the position within the next 24 to 48 hours, the sources said.

Weis will be reunited with head coach Todd Haley, with whom he shared an office when both were young assistants with the New York Jets. Weis also will be reunited with Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who was the Patriots vice president of player personnel when Weis was the offensive coordinator for three Super Bowl championships before going to coach at Notre Dame.

The Bears had also been in the mix to hire Weis as offensive coordinator but the Chiefs won out.

Weis was dismissed last fall with a 35-27 record in five seasons at Notre Dame.

    1. I like this pick up. He’s proven to be a good offensive mind in the NFL. He has superbowl experience and rings. Haley is doing exactly what he needs to do, surround himself with smart coaches. You know he’s gonna want to bring in Jimmy Claussen, but Pioli and Haley are going to stick with Cassel.

      Bring on Romeo!

    2. Yeah no way they draft Claussen and Im sure he has already been told that..As for Romeo i would think we would have already heard by now..Im thinking he is gonna be hired by the G Men. If not then Id be all about it, and im sure most Chiefs fans would accept. We got along offseason awaiting ladies and gentlemen..Its about time for baseball season. Go Cards…haha

    3. Agreed, Jimmy Clausen isn’t going to KC, it’s going to be an Offensive Tackle like Russell Okung or Anthony Davis. Winning the last game cost us Eric Berry but it was WELL worth it.

    4. Great move! Wasn’t Weis the offensive coordinator for the Pats in a couple Super Bowls?

    7. I am smelling a CHIEFS SUPERBOWL within the next 2 years aslong as we get a off. line to protect cassel. With Chambers on one side and if bowe can stop dropping passes and Charles in the backfield we will be unstoppable. GO CHIEFS

    11. with this hire means golden tate 2nd round pick. write it down and date it. Bowe,Chambers, and Tate it just goes great together.

    12. Tate is too small in my opinion. I like Alexander from Mizzou more. But he is an injury risk.

    14. Chiefs need a number 3 wideout and tate fits the slot with his speed and hands plus what he can do for the chiefs on punt and kick returns. Worth a 2nd round if he’s there.

    15. Whoa!! slow down people we still have a lot of work to do. Yes we are building an offense. But man we had THE worst defense in the league this last season.

    16. While were are signing all of the X-Pats, we better sign free agent DT. Vince Wolfolk. I think he would help our run D tremendously. I would also love to see KC sign Free agent LB. DeMarco Ryans. Draft an O-lineman, and a good WR, and we should be on our way back.
