[Chiefs Blog] The Chiefs announced today that they have signed free agent center Casey Wiegmann.
Wiegmann returns to Kansas City after spending the past two seasons with the Broncos. Wiegmann started 111 consecutive regular season games and opened two playoff contests during his initial tour of duty with the Chiefs (2001-07).
In another effort to upgrade their line, the Chiefs will have guard Ryan Lilja in on Monday as a free-agent visitor. Lilja was released by the Colts last week.

I like this acquisition….glad to have you back from the evil Donkeys Casey!

He is not the best center in the game but he is consistantly okay and he is an upgrade for us. Things are looking up!

I agree. Man, if we could lock up Lilja we could focus mainly on defense in the draft. Pioli is awesome!!!!

Wow, this line would be an upgrade:
LT. Brandon Albert
LG. Ryan Lilya
C. Casey Weigmann
RG. Brian Waters
RT. Barry Richardson? / Ryan O’Callaghan?
Other than the Chiefs RT I think we are solid. I think the plan this upcoming year will be run, run, run, and short passes. With our backs, I think the would be a good strategy offensively.
It is looking better.

Love the signing welcome back Casey. I still say we pick up a tackle in the first round and make this unit dominate. Then worry about a receiver and someone for the nose in the 2nd round.

We still need to get an offensive lineman in the draft. I dont think we should go after the o lineman in the first round. You can pick up a solid guard in Pouncey in the second round, even go after a tackle, which this draft is deep in. I really think KC should go after either Eric Berry or Rolando McClain with their first pick.
RD 1-Eric Berry (S) Tenn-Best Safety to come out of the draft since Polomalu.
RD 2-Maurkice Pouncey (OG/C) Fla-Great blocker and will be used at LG. 2011 Draft the Chiefs will get their franchise Left Tackle.
RD 2-Jerry Hughes (DE/OLB) TCU- Could possibly be the best LB on the Chiefs at the end of the 2010 season.
RD 3-Aaron Hernandez (TE) FLA-Great route runner and nice hands. He is 2nd rd talent. (SLEEPER PICK IN 2010 DRAFT!!!)
RD 4-Jacoby Ford (WR/KR) Clemson-Very Speedy and could be a nice slot receiver

The signings so far have opened up the direction the Chiefs can go in the draft. However, it all depends on what the four teams before the Chiefs do. This is really the hardest draft to try to predict in quite a while.

very smart pick up by getting casey even if it’s a 1 year deal that free’s up space for this year’s draft so we dont have worry all about o-lineman this draft… and if we get Ryan Lilja and draft a good o-lineman this draft the chiefs line will be very stable…

I know BW has been a staple of our line for some time, but it’s time to start thinking about his replacement. I say draft Okung, move Albert back to where he’s comfortable, get a solid guard in like the 4th or 5th round, let Waters start mentoring him. Because let’s be honest…how many more years does Brian have left in him? Also, I would like to see either Jacoby Ford or Golden Tate wearing the Red N Gold next year! Spiller would also be a dream and trade off Charles.

Big signing by KC. I’m thinking now since Albert balled at the end of the season do we need to draft a LT. If Berry is there take him we need a defensive game changer

Lilja is a good pick up for us. I think we’ll take Berry with the first pick and an OT with the second pick now. Berry is the best player in this draft and we will get great value picking him fifth. Weis is getting all the love in free agency. Crennell will get all the love in the draft.
