[ESPN.com] The Chiefs will get to show off the New Arrowhead Stadium with an appearance on Monday Night Football against the Chargers on opening weekend.
The Chiefs have never opened a season with a Monday night game. They haven’t played a home Monday night game since November 2004, when they lost to New England.
Later in the season, the Chiefs have a stretch when they will play five of seven games away from Arrowhead. But they finish the season with two home games, including a Jan. 2 meeting against the Raiders.

Even though its the late game on Monday night, at least we got one.

Jeff, you are the only one that I have seen that has seen the injustice of this. Everybody else thinks we got some great reward. They gave The Ravens and Jets the first Monday Night slot. I think it sucks that they pushed us to the back. Nobody watches the second game on Monday Night. After all, isn’t the whole point of Monday Night Football to be watched by the nation? Nobody besides Chiefs and chargers fans are going to be watching football until midnight because they have to go to work early in the morning. Goodell has been a prick to the Chiefs ever since he became Commissioner. The first Monday Night game of the year shows two games. All Monday nights that follow is just one game. I would have rather had a different Monday Night so we could be the only game to be watched by the nation. We got a newly redone stadium we deserve a one game Monday Night when ALL eyes are on us, instead of just a few.

Whether or not it’s the first or second game doesn’t really matter to me at least we got one and finally get to open the season at home.

I like our schedule this year. I think we can win at least 9 of these games. That might not get us into the playoffs, but it would be a nice improvement. We will know more about this team after the draft tomorrow.

Tom you make a good point, but in all honesty,as a team right now we have a lot to prove. I don’t know of too many 4-12 teams that get to show case their team the following year on national TV especially MNF. I just think we need to look at it as an indication that we are heading in the right direction IMO we are, and hopefully the product we put on the field will demand national cry for more TV time. I guess I’m optimistic by nature and will always look at the glass as being half full – It’s a MNF game and I’m looking forward to see our team Kick some Charger butt!

I am diggin the schedule..Very happy KC is on MNF the 1st week..It sucks for east coast fans, but west coast fans will probably see this game instead of the Jets/Ravens game..This schedule on paper is setting us up for success, lets hope KC is up for the challenge at hand..I know they are better then their record shows from last year..Cant wait for the draft and the season to start..

This is from ESPN Insider:
There hasn’t been any shuffling of the top 10 draft picks yet, and it might not happen at all this year, but there’s a new idea on another team that is looking to make a move.
Appearing on the NFL Network on Monday, Michael Lombardi noted that the Kansas City Chiefs want to trade down from their current spot at No. 5 overall. Per Lombardi, they would like to move down about 10 spots or so because they don’t appear to be locked in to any one player or position. Ideally, Lombardi added, there will be a team that is very high on Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen, and this other team will want to jump ahead of the rest of the top 10 to grab him.
One possibility that jumps right out at us is the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners have two picks in the teens, are enamored with Clausen and have a new man at the head of the front office who might be looking to make a signature transaction. Of course, it might be more logical for the Niners to hang on to both of those picks because they’ll likely be able to get two starters instead of one, and Clausen is considered a risky pick by some. But Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News is on board with this suggestion. He even suggests that the Niners might be able to get a second-rounder back from the Chiefs. That would mean the Niners would pick at No. 5, No. 36 and No. 49, with the Chiefs picking at No. 13, No. 17 and No. 50 (from Atlanta from last year’s Tony Gonzalez deal). On the surface, this seems to make some sense for both sides, since the Niners will get Clausen (if they do want him that badly), and the Chiefs will be able to plug two of their many holes with impact players drafted in the teens.

Nice!!! Monday Night Football!! The late game is the best anyway. Football fans can’t get enough especially after waiting through a whole preseason schedule. there Will be plenty of eyes on that game. We have to win the first game in the newly renovated Arrowhead. It would be nice to send a message to the division and the League that the Chiefs are no joke in 2010. Who do you guys want in the draft??

Wow! That’s pretty generous Michael, of course being a Chief’s fan would love nothing less, and given our schedule for this coming season, we should come out of this looking pretty good, However, being a chief fan for as long as I have been,,, I always worry about the games we should win – for some reason Chiefs have a tendency to play to our opponents level of competition or lack of! Saying that I hope you’re right! Would really look outstanding in my new Super Bowl Champion KC Chief’s gear! LOL

Living in Virginia, I only get to watch the Redskins, Carolina, Baltimore and Jacksonville. And, of course, Pittsburg. So even if the Monday night game is on at 1030pm for me and will be over at 1:30, I will definately watch it and thats better than not seeing it at all. But I agree with Chief Tom, it sucks they stuck us with the late game.
LJSucks–I just read that article. I like the idea switching our picks with the 49ers and getting 2 picks in the top 17. I hope that happens, we’ll be able to get one of the top 5 OT and a good defensive player too.
Comment by Jeff in VA — April 21, 2010 @ 7:34 pm
I agree two picks in the teens, that would be great. We could get our OT and then snag the second best safety out there hopefully Earl Thomas. Mayock has him down as more talented than Eric Berry. I doubt that, but anyone that is anywhere near the skill level as Eric Berry is plenty good enough. Hey Michael D. I love your Optimism! I have been a Chiefs fan for well over 20 years it would be nice to get back on track. I believe in Pioli and Hunt and I also love our new coach with a Parcells style no nonsence approach. Coaches like that always turn out to be successful. Example- Belichick, Parcells, etc. Herm Edwards was a “players friend”, and we all know what that got us.

Hey everyone i may not have been a chiefs fan as long as some of you but here is what i know i work with a raider fan and a charger fan and a bronco fan one of my friends is a bronco fan and i am the Only Chiefs fan around them that gives them crap because i belive like all of you that the CHIEFS are the best team in the nfl i mean look what we did last year we beat the superbowl champs the steelers and that was a good game i was thier and i thought thier for a little while when our new coaching staff was out thier they where going to screw us over but we won and then thier has been times in the past that i have been so mad at the chiefs i never give up on them and i love the CHIEFS just like all of you i mean look at our team the only time we had a team was in 2003 and then thier where the joe is great days and some of you should know who i am talking about the best qb that we had in a long time. I know you are being nice when you complment me on my coments and i like that and just so you know i am not getting deffence of on you its just i have to agree with you on somethings and like we always say we are going to win the superbowl i mean we could be viking fans they have never won a superbowl ever and if they ever mske it back thier i hope that the Chiefs are thier two and we have home field and its in our home field so we can beat them again or even the packers could play us in the superbowl

I wouldn’t take things personally from the Commish. The fact is that KC has been a bad team for some time. Bad teams do not get much air time and they don’t get the prime time slot. It’s like the old Smith Barney commercials, you have to earn it. Chiefs have been at the bottom for a while and they are a small market franchise. Win more games and they (TV time slots) will come. Get into the playoffs and actually win a game and even more TV time will come. With only one playoff win since the Super Bowl year, forty one years ago, there is no established record of success. You don’t see Detroit, Cleveland or Seattle on many national games either. It’s just business.
Comment by brad — April 22, 2010 @ 11:11 am
sorry i hate to disagree brad but detroit cleveland and seattle have had prime time games and the vikings have never won a superbowl and they have had prime time games as well its the nfl they just don’t want to give the Chiefs a prime time game until now because we the chiefs fans want to see one and now we get one and the nfl wants the fans to be happy.

Why should the Chiefs get the first MNF game week1? We have been terrible the past 3 years, we should be thankful that we got a MNF game! I live in KY and I was pumped cause my boys will be on TV, however i will be coming to visit KC to see this game LIVE! I cannot wait! GO CHIEFS! let’s turn this year around!
