Former Teammate Disputes Bowe’s Story

[Kansas City.com] Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe might have told the story of a girl being stashed in every room at the Chiefs hotel for a game in San Diego in 2007, but a former teammate denied his account.

“The things he’s saying are not true,” defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson, who played five seasons for the Chiefs, the last being in 2007, told The Star on Thursday. “Security is so tight at the hotels. They wouldn’t allow your family members to come up to the rooms, let alone have girls waiting in the rooms for you. If they did that, it affects the Chiefs owners, the organization and the coaches. It makes it look like the coaches let this kind of stuff go on and I know Coach (Herm) Edwards did not do that. I don’t remember the San Diego trip specifically, but I can tell you there were no girls up on our level.”

Bowe is quoted in the May 31 issue of ESPN the Magazine that some players arranged for several women to be at the team hotel for the 2007 game in San Diego. Bowe has been unavailable for comment since the story came out, and the Chiefs have declined comment on the matter.

The Chiefs upset the Chargers in that game, winning 30-16. Bowe had one of his best games for the Chiefs, catching eight passes for a career-high 164 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown.

Wilkerson said he spoke up Thursday because he was concerned all of the players on that 2007 team were implicated by Bowe’s comments.
