Updated: Although there has been no official word yet from the Chiefs, several major media outlets are reporting that they have signed safety Eric Berry, the club’s first round pick in this past April’s draft.
In fact, NFL.com is reporting that the two sides have agreed to a six-year, $60 million contract that includes $34 million guaranteed. The deal would make Berry the highest-paid safety in NFL history.
Updated: ESPN.com is reporting that Berry signed a six year deal worth a maximum $60 million, of which $34 million is guaranteed.
A spokesman for the Chiefs said until the club announced something, there is nothing official.
[Chiefs Blog] First-round draft pick Eric Berry posted on Twitter that he has reached a contract agreement with the Chiefs and that he’s on his way to training camp in St. Joseph.

WOW! That’s a lot of money for a rookie Safety. I think he’s being looked at as our defensive savior like how we paid DT back in the 90′s. DT always had special privelages, I think it will be the same way for Berry. Time to go buy a Berry jersey!!!

This right here is thrilling… I’m telling ya…remember when we drafted him and how big he was smiling and that look of his–he stood out so much more than the other first-rounders in my opinion! He looked so happy to be a Chief!! He is gonna contribute so much to KC!! Man, Tony G screwed up by leaving us, I just know it! Here we go, we’re coming back! This is flippin’ thrilling!!!! August is TOMORROW!!!!
