[Kansas City.com] Chiefs safety Kendrick Lewis, a rookie from Mississippi, was fined $5,000 this week by the NFL for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland tight end Evan Moore, lAFC information manager Corry Rush confirmed to The Star on Friday.
The Chiefs were penalized 15 yards in last week’s game against the Browns after Lewis was flagged for his hit on Moore, which Cleveland coach Eric Mangini said resulted in a concussion.
Rush said the league determined that Lewis’ hit was unnecessary roughness on a defenseless receiver.

Unbelievable. All he did was turn his shoulder and let Moore slam into him. The NFL will be flag football in a couple of years.

I understand why the NFL is cracking down on hits that may cause concussions, but I replayed the hit several times and I can’t see how Lewis even knew Moore didn’t have the ball because he had his head down to make the tackle. The penalty was the right call but the fine was not. Did Mack get a fine for giving DJ a clear cheap shot later in the game?
