[Kansas City.com] Former Chiefs guard Will Shields today was selected as the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s 2010 Man of the Year.
The Walter Camp Man of the Year Award honors an individual who has been closely associated with the game of football as a player, coach or close attendant to the game. It factors in success and leadership on the field as well as contributions to public service in the community.
Shields, a former Outland Trophy winner at Nebraska, joins a distinguished list of former Man of the Year winners, including Roger Staubach of Navy, Gale Sayers of Kansas, Dick Butkus of Illinois, Mike Singletary of Baylor and last year’s recipient, John Elway of Stanford.
In 2003, Shields was honored as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, so he is now one of eight players to have won college football and pro football’s most prestigious honors.
