[KC Chiefs.com] Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel missed today’s practice because of an appendectomy, the Chiefs said today.
If that’s the case, the Chiefs are looking at a best-case scenario of losing Cassel for at least two weeks, this Sunday’s game at San Diego and the following week at St. Louis.
The Chiefs announced Cassel’s procedure was successful and said they expect Cassel to return to work this week.
Brodie Croyle took the first-team snaps at practice. Tyler Palko, newly promoted off the practice squad, was the backup.

I understand that an appendectomy is a MUST HAVE procedure should you start having complications, but…NOT NOW….OMG….Playoff home game chances are dwindling now that Crodie will be at the helm.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Prove me wrong Croyle

Well i remember a day when Grbac got injured and Gannon came in and led our team to the playoffs..So Croyle may not be Gannon..But I have a feeling since our offensive line is alot better since the last time Croyle was the starter he may surive and do well…Maybe, Croyle could be the next Cassel for another team next season?..Lets be believe in him..Either way the Defense needs to step up and we need to run run run run.

This is how the NFL normally works..The backup comes in lights it up and cashes in during the offseason…Please be one of those cases..

I am not a Croyle fan, but I am pulling for him now. Cassel was having a great year. I hope he gets well soon. Actually, something like this happening, can make everyone step up their game. I expect us to beat San Diego and knock them out of the playoff hunt. Go Chiefs!!!

An Appendectomy takes up to a week to recover from now a days. The way this procedure went, Cassel should miss no more than one game and could very well be ready to go on Sunday. Sorry Brodie

oh boy this sucks!! but,hey let’s hope that Mcluster and the D can hold their own!! We need Dexter to be that rarity on offense that cause unbalancd matchups and we need our D to really play some ball this week!!! our corners can’t give up the deep ball!!!

We’ll find out how tough we really are this weekend. In years past I would be pulling my hair out right now but given how excellent our coaching has been I think they can come up with a good game plan for a Cassel-Less offense.

I am praying for a miricle from Croyle, who is 0-9 as a Starer for the Chiefs.

With Cassel out for this game, I hope this game will be a good gauge on how well the team as a whole has progressed and can overcome diversity.

If we can shock the bolts (pun intended), it pretty much eliminates them this year. We need this one bad. Besides that, we can sweep them and beat them with a backup QB. I love it. Let’s kick their butts and get another coach fired.

Croyle did surprisingly well last year against the Ravens…I’m totally freaked out about losing that chemistry that Cassel and Bowe had, but…like you all have said, with Dexter and all I think we can do it, we focus on their weaknesses and go in their with our mission…I mean, to Croyle, this is the best he could ever hope for…to prove himself in a must-win situation. Can’t friggin’ wait.

I agree with Barret. Appendectomies aren’t as big of a deal these days as they were in the past. Other websites are writing that its more like a 50-50 chance he will play this week. I seriously doubt he will miss two weeks; maybe one at the most. The chiefs should be fine as the i predict the raiders to lose against the jags this week.

We must not forget we have the number ONE rushing attack in the NFL. If we can step it up on D and at the very least keep this a close game the quality of Croyels play will be a smaller factor in this game. If Cassel is out (which I don’t think he will be given the magnitude of this game) I expect to see Charles Jones and Mccluster having a big day running the ball with Croyle making short safe passes when needed. Chiefs will move one step closer to clinching the division this weekend with or without Cassel (but I’d love to see him whoop up on SD in their house. I wish him a speedy recovery and will continue wearing his jersey each sunday
