[ESPN.com] Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, who missed last week’s game following an appendectomy, has been listed as active for Sunday’s crucial game against the St. Louis Rams.

It was not immediately clear if Cassel, the Chiefs’ regular starter, would begin the game under center or on the sidelines backing up Brodie Croyle.

The Chiefs’ third quarterback Tyler Palko was listed as inactive.

    1. KC needs to get their heads out of their asses. Sorry for the language..but why does it seem that they just forgot how to play ball. Its the Rams for sake.

    3. It’s time to give Cassel his due, I’m proud to have him leading my team and anyone who disagrees is just wrong.

    4. It felt like Matt being back on the field was motivational for the whole team. He didn’t play timid a single minute. He took hits & even scrambled for a big first down. Cassel is DEFINITELY our man in KC! Thank goodness our last 2 games are @ Arrowhead!!

    5. Some have blown the appendix thing out of proportion because they have never had that surgery and don’t understand how someone could return so quick. It’s considered a simple surgery these days and most reciver very quickly. I had complications (postsurgical ileus) with mine 4 years ago and spent 4 days in the hospital, but recovered very quickly (within days) afterwards. There wouldn’t really be any risk of anything getting worse except for tearing the three surgery holes that are less than an inch each. There was no doubt in my mind that he would play Sunday. I am glad he played well. He has become a better leader this year and it’s more visible to the fans. In his news conferences, you can tell he is intelligent and likes to have fun. He may not have the passing skills of a Elway or Marino, but I think he has the smarts of Brady and Manning (after 3 years starting in their careers).

    6. Hospital lengths of stay typically range from a few hours to a few days, but can be a few weeks if complications occur. The recovery process may vary depending on the severity of the condition, if the appendix had ruptured or not before surgery. Appendix surgery recovery is generally a lot faster if the appendix did not rupture. Full recovery from appendectomies takes about 4 to 6 weeks but it can prolong to up to 8 weeks if the appendix had ruptured.

DONT tell me its a simple operation….Jeff please read up on this. I have had it and it was a ruptered one…I could not throw or even twist fully for weeks on end. THIS seems like a non-ruptered Appendicitectamy (spelling, which in turn makes it not as severe….. and yes I did stay at a holday in express last night

    7. kcchiefs — Okay I shouldn’t have called it simple, but Laparascopic surgery is consider by all to be minimally invassive. Of course, as with any surgery, there are many factors that go into how fast someone recovers and every surgery is serious. His was not ruptured from what I heard.

The point I was trying to make was that I recovered very fast from mine, even though I stayed in the hospital for 4 extra days. I am not a professional athlete, but I was feeling very good after 11 days. I can understand how he played in this game. Most people haven’t had this surgery and don’t understand how someone could return so quick, but I do. That’s my point.

If you had the surgery and yours took 4 to 6 weeks to recover, that seems like a long time to me only because I was fully recovered in about 7-10 days. But I would acknowledge that it could take that long in some circumstances. I’m not a Doctor either by the way and I would never stay in a Holiday Inn Express.
