[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs currently have 25 players on their roster without a contract for 2011, including both of their top pass rushers, outside linebacker Tamba Hali and end Wallace Gilberry. The Chiefs re-signed some of their better young players during the season, including linebacker Derrick Johnson and running back Jamaal Charles, but made no apparent move to re-sign either Hali or Gilberry.

Other defesnive players without contracts for 2011 include: LB Charlie Anderson, CB Brandon Carr, CB Travis Daniels, DT Ron Edwards, LB Cory Greenwood, CB Maurice Leggett, LB Corey Mays, S Jon McGraw, DL Shaun Smith, and LB Mike Vrabel.

Offensive players without 2011 contracts include Wiegmann and quarterback Brodie Croyle. Wiegmann won the starting job from the incumbent, Rudy Niswanger, during training camp and never gave it back.

Other offensive players without contracts for 2011 include: RB Jackie Battle, FB Tim Castille, WR Terrance Copper, TE Brad Cottam, FB Mike Cox, WR Kevin Curtis, OL Rudy Niswanger, OL Ryan O’Callaghan, TE Leonard Pope, and OL Barry Richardson.

Because the league’s collective-bargaining agreement is set to expire in March, it’s unclear which of the Chiefs’ unsigned players would be unrestricted, restricted or exclusive rights free agents or whether there will be free agency at all.

    1. Ron Edwards has to go he should have been replaced a long time ago. He’s a decent back-up but not a starter. We should keep Shaun Smith, Tamba Hali, and Wallace Gilberry of course. We also need to keep Carr, Vrabel, Niswanger (just in case), Battle, Castille, Copper (good on Special Teams), Wiegmann (he might retire), Mays (good backup), maybe Curtis?, O’Callaghan, maybe keep Pope?, and Berry Richardson. I like McGraw he’s a tough guy and a slodier but he has screwed up to many times.

    2. Wow! That seems like a lot. I’m sure they will keep the ones that are showing improvement (Hali, Smith, and Gilberry to name a few) and let the rest go. Only one name in that group really caught my attention. Croyle–He must go!

I have two names for OC–Brian Billick or Brad Childress. Both have HC experience and success as OC.

    5. yea, i agree. i thought we shoulda tried to get troy smith, but hell im ok with whatever at this point. as long as we can keep up the caliber of play we saw this past year, we will be in playoff contention for years to come. 1 of these days we will see the boys come through with a playoff win, then maybe…………

    7. Jeff ~ The Chiefs will not hire a big name OC. Whoever is hired will be a puppet for Todd Haley to control. This guy is a control freak and that is why Charlie had to go.
