[KC Chiefs.com] Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel didn’t play on the winning team, but he did play a key role in what was probably the strangest play in Pro Bowl history.
Cassel hit Chiefs teammate Dwayne Bowe with a 21-yard pass in the closing seconds. Bowe lateraled the ball to Jacksonville’s Montell Owens, who ran 6 yards before he lateraled the ball to Cleveland center Alex Mack, who rumbled 40 yards for the touchdown.
Even after all that, the AFC still lost 55-41 to the NFC on Sunday in Honolulu.
Cassel was five of 12 for 95 yards and two interceptions, one of which was returned 59 yards by Carolina’s Jon Beason for the NFC’s final TD. Cassel also threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Owens with 1:55 left in the game.
Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles had a big day with 72 yards in 10 carries, including a run of 32 yards. Charles scored the AFC’s first touchdown on an 8-yard run with 1:54 left in the first half.
Bowe ended up with four receptions for 54 yards.
Two other Chiefs played in Sunday’s game: guard Brian Waters and safety Eric Berry, who assisted on one tackle but couldn’t bring down St. Louis’ Steven Jackson on a 21-yard touchdown run in the first half.
