[ESPN.com] Former Chiefs guard Will Shields has been elected to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

Shields, who played at Nebraska during 1989-92, was among 14 players and two coaches to be selected.

Shields will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame next year, so this could be a precursor to the ultimate honor in 2012. He’s certain to be inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame next March.

The Class of 2011 will be officially enshrined at the College Football Hall of Fame, tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2012.
