[Chiefs Blog] The Chiefs filled their void at nose tackle by agreeing to contract terms with 12-year veteran Kelly Gregg. Gregg was released recently by the Ravens in a cost-cutting move.
Updated
KC Chiefs.com has now officially reported the signing of Gregg. He will be permitted to participate only in team meetings until August 4th under terms of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Gregg is a native of Wichita, Kansas.

Kelly Greg is a nice player but older and injury prone. He will teach our young DT’s how to play. However, we just lost both of our DT’s and Cullen Jenkins is available for not huge money and he is an absolute animal! Mebane (Seatle), Edwards (Minn), and Franklin (San Fran) are also out there and not demanding big money. If we don’t solidify our middle it will be just like 2003 when we scored 35 pts a game and everyone will run right up the middle on us which also sets up the play action pass for the entire game!!!

Short term 1 year solution when you lose Edwards and Smith.
Good PR, bring Gregg back to Wichita and Oklahoma, let his family see him play and then after 1 year, retire quitely.
With the news that Chiefs are $34 million UNDER the CAP and under the new CBA really don’t have to spend up to 90% of the cap until 2013, Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli will wait until the cap is higher in 2013, since we are currently operating under the 2009 cap monies of $120.4 million.
We are at least 5 years away from even being in Super Bowl contention, until Pioli and Haley get rid of all the Herm Edwards players and put their stamp on the team.
Wait until the 2012 NFL Draft when the “last” draft class of 2008 and Herm Edwards become free agents.
Glenn Dorsey – gone; for Pioli and Haley – too small for their 3-4 NT no NE Vince Wolfolk; kept and moved to DE due to contract
Was touted in 2008 to be the #1 Draft Pick and “Best Player in the Draft”
saying the Chiefs got “lucky” to have him “drop” to us at # 5, three years later all but forgotten, will be mentioned in passing when we either trade with likes “Turk” and “Tank” or let him go.
The 3 “BRANDON’S” – GONE !!!
Brandon Albert – gone;
Brandon Flowers – too small and 2 consecutive years with shoulder surgery because of hits on big backs and receivers – gone;
Brandon Carr – gone
Jamaal Charles will want top monies and if we are able to draft in 2012 and get TRENT RICHARDSON from Alabama it will be easier to try and trade him.
Anybody who doesn’t think so, just look what happended to Brian Waters.
All MR. NFL in 2009, All-Pro Guard, closer to 40, NFL Player Rep for recent CBA – never got along with Todd Haley.
Dwayne Bowe – Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali are the ONLY 3 Players of note
to still be their because of their great performances.
2010 AFC West Championship – “FLUKE” we lose just 1 more game at 9-7 and San Diego with 9-7 and tiebreakers get in Playoffs.
2011 tougher schedule best record turn number around – 6-10
If we can’t even beat OAKLAND AND DENVER – we might be 0-16
IF Haley doesn’t get it that just like a KU – K-State game you can go 1-11 as long as you win that game.
Meaning – BEAT OAKLAND twice every year – we got swept – LOST AT HOME !!!!
Marty used to say with OAKLAND, stay close and the “new RAIDERS” will collapse in the 4th quarter.
Until we get a “TOP FLIGHT” QB we will NEVER WIN A SUPERBOWL !!!!
“Maybe” we should shoot for the “50th” ANNIVERSARY SUPERBOWL and win it again with the AFC Lamar Hunt Tropy and the NFL Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Perrennial Playoff Teams for at least next 5 years;
AFC
Patriots – BRADY – 33 3 Super Bowls
Jets – SANCHEZ – 25 0 Super Bowls
Colts – MANNING – 35 1 Super Bowls
Ravens – FLACCO – 25 0 Super Bowls
Steelers -”BIG BEN”- 29 2 Super Bowls
Chargers – RIVERS – 29 0 Super Bowls
NFC
Giants – MANNING – 30 1 Super Bowls
Eagles – VICK – 31 0 Super Bowls
Falcons – RYAN – 25 0 Super Bowls
Saints – BREES – 32 1 Super Bowls
Packers – ROGERS – 27 1 Super Bowls
Rams – BRADFORD – 23 0 Super Bowls

Rick, your post is a little hard to follow. Are you a Chiefs fan? Have a little faith buddy. Pioli and Haley have been sucessful before, I have to believe they know what they’re doing.
How do you suggest we get a top flight QB? What “top flight QB” was available this year for us to pick up? Our QB played in the pro-bowl, didn’t he?

Wow, 5 years until we are superbowl contenders. In 5 years the turnover on a football team could be 100%. We have a ton of talent at almost every position. Just look at the NFL networks top 100, we have more players than almost any other team. And I hope all the Brandons are still here in 5 years. Especially Brandon Flowers. And being one lose away from missing the playoffs is football not a fluke. I’m sick of people saying that. We had the best record after 16 games period. If anything you could say it was because of our easy scedule but that is only 2 games different than anyone else in the division. We repeat as champs this year, you can mark that down now.
