Report: Win Over Colts Saved Haley’s Job

[SI.com] Did the Chiefs come-from-behind victory over the Colts save head coach Todd Haley’s job? Well, that is the case according to a report by Nick Wright, who tweeted Wednesday that “Multiple Chiefs personnel told me Scott Pioli had decided to fire Todd Haley had the Chiefs lost to the Colts on Sunday.”

Wright’s the one who broke the news this preseason that rookie K.C. receiver Jonathan Baldwin had injured his wrist in a locker-room fight with Thomas Jones.

Kansas City trailed the winless Colts 17-7 before rallying to capture a 28-24 win.

If Kansas City was going to go in a different direction with its head coaching spot, this might have been the week to do it — the Chiefs have a Week 6 bye, and on the rare occasion a head coach is relieved of his duties in season, it often happens when a team has those extra days to prepare for its next game.

How long Haley lasts as the Chiefs’ head coach going forward could depend — especially in light of Wednesday’s report — on what Kansas City does in Week 7 and beyond.

    2. wow, just when you get on a roll ( I know 2 wins against terrible teams) there is controversy, but it is two in a row and the loss to Chargers was a close game. I have defended Haley in the past. Personally I like his style. I hope this is a bunch of BS, unless Pioli has Cowher or Dungy lined up. I would imagine it would be Romeo as interim if they fired him mid season.

    3. Hire Bill Cowher. Give him complete control. Fire Pioli, etc. Get Marty Schottenheimer to coach defense.
Super Bowl within 2 years. Nuf said.

    4. Yeah you’re absolutely right Glen. FIre Pioli and give Bill COwher total control…..I mean who cares that we have a talented young team or that we won the division just last year. Pioli has only gathered a crop of young talent that is going to be good in the next couple years. I guess the air is too thin up there in Colorado.

Super Bowl teams take time. Pioli has done a great job of building young talent for the future. This team has the potential to be great for years to come, just be patient.

    6. Why didn’t we lose then? I didn’t like Haley from day 1 and I still don’t. I said it before and I’ll say it again. He’s not experienced enough. He coaches the same way I do when I play Madden. Being a hot head in your face isn’t enough. You need to back up the bravado with results. He’s the kind of coach that will have minimal success at best. He got some bad luck with injuries, but so does every other coach in the league. I pray that I’m wrong, but nothing has shown me any different. Speaking of bad coaches. Lesly Frasier, yikes.

    11. We need to get a good offensive coordinator, and let haley be a offensive corrdinator and Cowher head coach .

    12. First….. KC can still win the division….. Second…KC is only two games out of a tie for 1st place. Pioli is a winner and if Haley does not cut it, he will be dismissed. we can all complain be mad, say what we want… the final thought is up to the Chiefs front office. I personally want Cowher… that wont happen. Something Cowher stated to USAtoday.COm
was the following with a analysis..:

““I’m open to listen to opportunities,” Cowher said in an online chat at USAToday.com, via Michael Hiestand of USA Today. “I’m very comfortable at CBS. I’ll keep all my options open. And I’ll only answer those questions at the end of the season. I’m not going to comment on any hypothetical situations until the entire season is over.”

The best fit for Cowher, in our view, remains the Giants. After a slow start, however, the Giants have propelled themselves into playoff contention. If they make it, the job likely won’t be open. If they don’t make it, coach Tom Coughlin could be out — especially since he’s 64 and entering the final year of his contract.”

This was reported in January of 2011.

      see link… http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/10/bill-cowher-says-hes-ready-to-consider-opportunities/

In short… what we have we have…. everyone had high hopes for the season…. there is still hope….
