[NFL.com] Chiefs quarterback Tyler Palko finished off Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos after Matt Cassel went down with an apparent hand injury. Cassel spoke to reporters after the game and said the coaching staff determined he was “too banged up” to finish the game.

There wasn’t anything visibly wrong with Cassel in the postgame media session but Kent Babb of the KC Star spotted him later and tweeted that Cassel was “wearing a cast on his right hand. Had index and middle fingers immobilized.”

We will have more on this story as it becomes available.

    1. I have lost all faith in this man. He seems like a likeable fella, and maybe even a leader, but, he should not be a professional quarterback, I’m sorry…maybe the receivers could catch a better thrown ball…he’s damn near awful…what is our contractual situation with him? I say cut our losses, because if he’s our QB we’ll never improve. Put a fork in him he’s done. Sorry Cassel, your inexperience is too apparent anymore and we don’t have time to waste.

    2. Sure Tammy, cause we havent wasted any time on Palko, Thigpen etc.. I’m not a Cassel fan but who is available that is better? Clark better open the checkbook and go after a real QB, I’m starting to lose faith.

    3. Listen – I have never been sold on Cassel – We will never win anything as long as he is our QB but its not all his Fault – The Offensive line is struggling our Coaching staff has been Horrible – Muir is a horrible offensive coordinator and Haley never gives a Honest answer – always side stepping and giving us this we are 0-1 this Quarter BS – Enough already!!! To lose two in a row at Home to inferior teams is unacceptable – Plain and simple and as a long suffering Chief Fan – I am totally disgusted to watch the same crap every week. We have 2 first round draft pick WR’s – and we do a horrible job of stretching the field – Lucky to have maybe 2 15 yard completions a game – its a joke. Tebow connects on a 56 yd TD to Decker – their only threat – How the hell does that happen – Flowers bites on a pump and their is no Safety their in time to defend – an absolute joke. It’s unhealthy to be a Chief fan – I get so stressed and aggravated every week – It’s just not fun – but every week I get all pumped up.

    4. The funny thing is that he collapses his own pocket by going wayyyy to far back. Dont believe me? Watch the next game as he goes 10 yards backwards and has to sprint back into the pocket. Hes making his tackles work too hard and it also opens up the middle of the pocket. Its sad that I can see this and Jim Zorn cant. A very easy fix would help him out.

    5. Brian! You got it man!! My husband and I were screaming every time he dropped back wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too far. Needless to say, we have no voice today. Thanks Cassel. And Chris…when did we waste time on Palko? I’m ready! He looked better than Cassel in the preseason! And Thiggy–his fate came as a result of not one but two injured QBs…what is your point? Waste time? I’m afraid I don’t get it?? I think I agree with your other comment that we have to open up the check-book…David Gerrard (sp?) was looking for a job at the beginning of the season and he’s gotta be better than Cassel, when the Jags were in the playoffs a few years ago he was the bomb. Now the damn Faders have Carson Palmer…I hate criticizing players, and I blamed the O Line and the coaching staff for too long…it’s his fault, he’s the one dropping back 20 yds each throw and making bad decisions, I’m sorry. Coach Weiss had the talent and ability to “mask the turd” last year, sorry, had to go there. Muir can’t mask it anymore…if it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd, well my friends, you know the rest:-( It doesn’t please me to do so…

    6. I agree Cassels time may be up, but the bigger problem in my opinion is the head coach. We just got out coached Sunday. How many teams do you think can get beat in the NFL when their opponents only throw 2 passes? Pretty Sad. Hailey needs to exit also

    7. IS IT ME OR DOES JONES JUST PLAIN SUCK WHEN HE RUNS THAT BALL…..SEEMS LIKE HE IS ALWAYS GETTING TACKLED FOR A LOSS..JUST SAYING…BUT I DO BELIEVE CASSEL COULD DO BETTER ALONG WITH HIS RECIEVERES….CATCH THE DAMN BALL….GRRRRR

    8. Can someone explain to me how we have such a sick WRs core, and we throw the ball to the last option every play???? Dont get me wrong, I love McCLuster, but Cassel looks to throw it to the flair, who is supposed to be the last option!!! He doesnt even look down field. yes I was wondering too why he drops back so Freaking far!!! Cassel works hard, he really does, he’s a tough guy, he proved that last year after his appendectomy. But as for being talented, we will go nowhere fast. Last year he looked good cause of Charles and a sucky schedule. Hes lucky he is gonna be out, cause our next 5 games is gonna embarrass me to even more to be a fan.

One other thing, can someone explain to me how a man can throw 8 passes, complete 5 of them, 1 for a TD, THEN the broncos losing BOTH running backs in the FIRST QUARTER!!! and still run all over us???!?? I was embarrassed to where my CHIEFS jersey at buffalo wild wings yesterday.

      I still love my CHIEFS.

Sincerely, one said fan in Louisville KY. :(

p.s I say we trade for Peyton Manning.

    10. Yeah, Thomas Jones…what’s up with that?? Not getting it done…whatta shame… Head Coach…umm…yeah, probably that too…but honestly, if we got Gruden or Cowher or one of the “good ole boys” we’d still have Cassel as our QB and that scares me. Like I said, what a leader, what a fella, tough guy yes, but, professional QB…I beg to differ…he sure gave it the ole college try (oh wait, he didn’t start in college)

    11. I say we play Stanzi and see what we have. We already know that Palko is a career back up and that might even be a strech.

    12. Too much negativity in these younger generations. Where’s all the love. A lot of people don’t understand football at all. Why don’t we go the the Tom Brady store and pick up one of those Tom Brady QBs. We’d win for sure then! Even with poor play calling and a bad OLine. the fact that Cassel didn’t play in college has absolutely no effect on how he plays now. He has enough pro experience to cancel that out. And when he has a good OLine he won 11 games one season and 10 in another. He’s an average or just below average QB who’s missing a good game plan and an Offensive line. It would help if we had our stud RB back to take the pressure off too. QBs don’t drop back too far, it’s all automatic 7, 5 or 3 step drops. He sprints up because the defense is beating him to his drop back spot. Watch the film.

    13. BTW, I would like to see Stanzi too. Lets see what he has. The way our OLine is playing that might happen.

      Comment by Jeff in VA — November 17, 2011 @ 11:03 pm

    14. Yes, watch the film.
Don’t know anything? Negativity? I bleed red. I’m seeing what a lot of people are seeing. I don’t know what you’re seeing.

Tom Brady store? Bite me. You’re absurd.
You yourself admit Cassel’s avg or below avg. Why can’t we at least have someone who’s above avg–not necessarily one of the GREATEST QBS TO EVER PLAY THE GAME (Brady)…where did you see that on this page??? Who implied that? I don’t think our receivers are the problem, that’s what I’m saying.

    15. The fact that Cassel didn’t play in college has ABSOLUTELY no effect? Really? Absolutely?? Why are you saying that?? You’re trying too hard to make your point! Cassel’s colon called…do you want your lips back?
