Palko Still the Starter…For Now

[Kansas City.com] One day after Tyler Palko committed four turnovers in a four-point loss to Pittsburgh, he remained the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, at least in a public setting.
But Palko’s grip on the position, already tenuous, slipped further from his grasp when coach Todd Haley said the recently acquired Kyle Orton would also get some first-team snaps Wednesday when the Chiefs begin practice for Sunday’s game against the Bears in Chicago.
“I would venture to say we’d as much as anything else get Kyle an opportunity to get acclimated into the offense, and the only way to do that is to get legitimate (snaps),” Haley said. “The guy that we feel gives us the best chance to win will always play.
“Tyler’s the starter. If we feel Kyle or Ricky gives us a better chance to win, then we surely would make that change.”
Haley said he wouldn’t hold back Orton now if he determines the veteran quarterback is an upgrade over Palko. Haley said Orton’s unfamiliarity with the playbook and new teammates wouldn’t be a problem.
“That won’t be an issue,” Haley said. “It will just be more along the lines of who can run the offense most efficiently taking all things into account.”
