Chiefs Would Consider Manning

[ESPN.com] Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel says his team would consider signing Peyton Manning — if the four-time league MVP becomes a free agent.

Manning’s future has been a hot topic around the city for months, and with the likelihood the Colts will not pay a $28 million bonus by March 8 to keep the four-time league MVP in Indy many are wondering where he will land.

Most team officials and coaches have been wary of discussing Manning for fear of violating the NFL’s tampering rules. But when asked whether the Chiefs would pursue Manning, Crennel said: “With a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he were available.”

    3. I would be happier if they went after RG III, but I wouldn’t complain if we got Manning. And, I am prepared to go one more year with Cassel. Which is probably what’s going to happen.

    4. Fellas, Peyton has 3 years max if he comes back healthy and thats a huge if!!! It took him nine years to only win one Superbowl. In that time, he worked around the clock on the timing with his wide receivers, tight ends and running backs. It would take 4 or 5 years for that to mold with all of our weapons. This has the Montana failed experiment written all over it. RG3 would be awesome. We have a great young team that will be competitive for several years. With Manning, we may be entertaining for a little while but will step backwards towards the solid foundation that we have already built. Finally, I live in D.C. as you know and very few of the die hard Skins want him too.

    5. I disagree with you DC. It took Manning 9 years from scratch. He’s now one to the best QBs in history. We have some good weapons on offense.

I wouldn’t consider Montana a fail. He took us to the AFC Championship game very quickly. I do agree that Manning’s health is a big IF. I believe it would be an improvement at the QB position and that’s what we need to do (if possible).

    6. After seeing the combine, and Coach clicking w/ RG3, Lets get a package together gor RG3, we have 11 picks RG# to KC!!!!!!! first yr backing up wither Orton or Cassel, and slip RG3 in at the right time and the Offense Reaches a whole new level of Dynamics!!! This could be one of the Biggest moves the Chiefs could (and should) ever Make

    7. Too Jeff, I already forgive you because we are usually on the same page. When Montana came, we had the best defense in the league and that’s why we went to the AFC Title Game. Now, our defense is good and upcoming but not that defense. Also, when you bring in Manning, everyone has to learn a new and the most difficult offense in the NFL that is based all on timing. Thus, we would stink next year and get a little better the next and by the time everyone learns it, Manning retires. Than we are left with a great team loaded with 3-6 year veterans and no QB to lead them. Than we add QB throw aways like Deberg, Bono and Grbac. I don’t know??? I still love you bro and respect your opinions. Especially about RG3!!!
