[KC Chiefs.com] The Chiefs announced today that they have placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.
As part of the transaction, the Chiefs offered Bowe a one-year contract worth about $9.5 million. Bowe can sign the contract at any time or the sides could negotiate a long-term contract.
Even if neither of those things happen, the franchise tag effectively keeps Bowe off the free-agent market. Starting next Tuesday he will be free to negotiate and sign a contract with another team.
But the Chiefs would have the right to match the offer and retain Bowe. If they decline to match, the Chiefs would lose Bowe but receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
The move with Bowe almost guarantees cornerback Brandon Carr will become an unrestricted free agent next week. With only one franchise tag to use, the Chiefs were faced when the off-season began with what appeared to be a difficult decision whether to place it on Bowe or Carr.
But the Chiefs last month effectively ended the mystery by signing former Oakland cornerback Stanford Routt to take Carr’s place.

Now the Bigger move at Quarterback. RG3 or Manning…
Any of the 2 over Cassel would be great and un upgrade at QB

YES YES UPGRADE QB—CASSEL IS NOT A STARTER, SOFT SCHEDULE THE YEAR BEFORE LAST WAS MIS-LEADING, VERY MIS-LEADING…ORTON’S BETTER, BUT WE NEED A FRANCHISE QB. WE HAVE THE MONEY, LET’S DO IT PIOLI AND HUNT!!!

man I wish we would trade up and go after RG3!!! I really think this could is the real deal as far as ability and an all around athlete this guy brings it all to the table as far as his character, attitude, personality and leadership. He is not cocky but exteremely confident. He has all the intangibles!!! The more I see and hear of him I wish the Chiefs would go after him !!!

Flynn has one full game under his belt in four years, I doubt they will risk signing him (I would bet he’ll go to Miami with Philbin if they don’t get Manning). His numbers, excluding the brilliant game last year, are on average with Orton and Cassel. He’s only thrown 132 passes in his career.
I don’t think Orton wants to come back to KC. I’m not sure either of them would be an upgrade over Cassel. That’s 50-50. Ortons career numbers are identical to Cassels except Cassel has won more games.
I would be happy if we went for RGIII and I believe IF Manning is healthy he would definately be an upgrade (for a few years) over Cassel.

When cassel is hot he does okay, but when he is cold he is very cold. I would honestly much rather see orton at QB he seemed more consitent, but then again who knows if he even wants to be in KC. I just hope we get somebody behind center that can get us to the superbowl again and i dont think cassel can do it.

Yes god, you are do know what you’re talking about! Cassel-cold, cold, cold. he should be the poster-child for “over-rated”. Orton is more consistent, well put. Jeff, I know you have said on the record at least 10000 times that those two are somehow equal over their careers, but, I just don’t SEE it. Cassel’s should be moving on up the projecting curve, but, is flat flat flat (cough, gag…such a disappointment). His demeanor alone is worth cutting him. BUT I AM FREAKING OUT B/C PEYTON IS TALKING TO THE FREAKING DONKEYS….if we don’t have him, he sure as HELL can’t be in our division…COME ON NOW. What’s Cassel got? 3-4 years left to make us miserable and to put our hands over our eyes before we move on? AWFUL!!!!! At least I didn’t have my hands over my eyes when Orton played. But more importantly, isn’t that what Peyton’s probably got in him? 3-4 yrs?
