Chiefs Appear Out of the Running for Manning

[ESPN.com] ESPN is reporting that former Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning has narrowed his list of likely landing spots, and Denver and Arizona appear to be the leaders.

Manning has taken visits to Denver and Arizona over the past few days, and the report quoted a source who said the future Hall of Fame quarterback is “leaning toward Denver.”

The Chiefs showed plenty of interest in acquiring Manning, after the Colts released him last week. It’s unknown, though, how aggressively Kansas City has pursued him.

Manning reportedly hopes to make a decision soon.

    1. We’re screwed if he picks Denver!! Playing him twice a year is not going to be good!!!

    2. Jesus…… thats ESPN….. what do you expect them to report…. Still I dont think Manning will select KC…. but man…. its ESPN thats reporting this….

Expect Manning to select by Tuesday…. thats when Free Agency kicks off…. he wants teams to make plans for the up coming season and not be dangling on what direction to go

    3. also…. if New England was in the running…. they would be all over him already to be in a Patriots uniform….

    4. Manning has always been our proverbial “Achilles’ heel”…. Seems as though every time we’ve been in a good position, whether in the regular season or the playoffs, he has torn us to shreads no matter what weapons he has had at his disposal in the past. Definitely not looking forward to seeing him twice a year, even if it’s only for a few seasons.

Bottom line, he is a game changer, and anyone who has ever said one man can’t carry a team, needs to look at what happened to the Colts last year. Granted one man’s talent can only carry a team so far, but the amount of talent and leadership skills he has can lead a team a long way. My advice, coaches better start sifting through game film and finding ways to stop this guy, because we’ve never been able to in the past.

    5. This is the best news that I have heard in weeks! If Manning is in Denver, he will be knocked out by week 5. Than the Broncos will have to re-learn Tebow’s offense (their 3rd offense in less than 2 seasons, Orton’s also). Good luck with that!!! I put the over/under at 6 for games that Peyton starts and 4 for wins.

    6. its funny how Denver is a running team and then they are in the sweepstakes for a passing player…..They have Thomas and Royal as recievers (Royal ..Mr. Drop the pass man) and then ONLY Willis McGahee….. wow, They let Brandon Marshall go three players are suspended for 4 to 6 games, and now they need a receiver corp to complement Manning.

As for Tim Tebow, HE actually won them the games they needed to win…WHILE SCRAMBLING…. something Peyton DOES not like to do… I hope MAnning enjoys running for his life because Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson are hungry and will be after his Glutumas Maximus.

If they let Tim Tebow go, I hope to god KC picks him up.

NOTHING against Denver, but I believe that is definatly the wrong choice here. Even Miami would be better than Denver. IF he does go to Denver, then its just because of Jim Fox and John Elway. Nothing more.

KC has two recievers (Bowe, and Baldwin, yes Breaston too I guess)And let alone Moeaki as a tightend which is like Dallas Clark.Running backs of Charles, Battle and McCluster. I forgot to mention that LIlja was his left guard while in Indianapolis for a few years. KC would still have the money to pick up Saturday for his center.

KC is lacking in a quarterback (as I have been saying since Cassel signed his big contract without being proven), a center and a fullback. THAT is what I believe KC needs…..

    7. An offense isn’t completely based around it’s quarterback, a quarterback has to learn his team’s offense just like any other player. The only difference is that, depending on the talents of certain players, a team will focus on it’s strong points, and with a good qb like Manning instead of Tebow, the Donkeys will quickly develop a good passing game.

After the luck that Tim Tebow had at the end of last season, he will be looking for a hefty contract if he is released. We do not want Tebow…. I’ll repeat…. WE DO NOT WANT TIM TEBOW! The last thing we need to do is offer an outrageous contract to another quarterback and end up in the same situation we’ve been in with Cassel.

Peyton has already proven himself to be one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, and Denver would be very very stupid not to offer him everything but the kitchen sink to play for them. Hell, we’re stupid for not offering that…..

    8. The Chiefs have this year and this year only to show me that its time to win. I have been a fan for years and Im tried of the front office seeing winning as a butt in every seat. Its time to cut that crap out. Free Agency start tomorrow, they better make moves, and better have a hell of a draft. They have 37 PLUS million under the cap. There is no excuse why they cannot bring in players. Its time for a Superbowl. 43 years is WAY LONG ENOUGH. Its time to PULL THE TRIGGER.

    9. There must be some reason Manning doesn’t want to come to KC, but it would be nice to know why. He would have the best defense and best receiver core in the AFC West. If we made a big push to get Carl Nicks and used our first pick on Jonathan Martin or Riley Rieff I don’t see what the complaint would be from him…

At least all of this ‘LETS TRADE UP AND GET RG3 OMG WOW’ nonsense can stop. Sure am glad that KC has a first and second round pick this year, and the first for the next 2 years to come… aren’t you?!?

    10. Manning doesn’t want to come to KC because they do not want to win. Like I said, winning to them is a butt in every seat. In a sense, I don’t blame him for not wanting to come. He is in the last stages of his career, and he would like to go out with a Superbowl. That should get KC’s attention right there. I am the biggest Chiefs fanatic there is, and to be honest, If I were Manning, I wouldn’t want to come to an organization that doesn’t want to win either. Unless they show otherwise that they are building a team to go to the Superbowl. KC better hope its not too late. If they truly want to sign Manning they better have a hell of a free agency pick ups, and a good draft. Hopefully he won’t sign with anyone by then, but I think he will. This better be a wake up call to the front office of KC. One of the best QBs in NFL history doesn’t even want to give you a time or day to meet with you. Not even return a phone call or nothing. What does that tell us? KC beter get their stuff together.

    11. It’s as if winning immediately with a veteran qb is a “bad thing”…why is it so frowned upon? Because we are not “building a team for the future”? What the hell does that even mean? We have too many weapons EVERYWHERE not to whip this division’s ass and compete in the AFC. The great players we have RIGHT NOW, IN THIS TIME WINDOW will not be here if we do not advsnce. WILL NOT BE AROUND MUCH LONGER…Period… Advance. Move on up…got it? Maybe the front office has grown accustomed to “losing” and falling short of expectations…since Lenny won it for us…REALLY? I got on board when Montana came over and have been psycho ever since, so, you know what I have endured…but REALLY? Is this the team I “know” and love????

      Comment by Tammy H — March 12, 2012 @ 7:09 pm

    12. I know the feeling Tammy…… 1969 was my on board the Chiefs Wagon….. adn I thought we had a chance with Montana, I just wish Peyton would at least listen to KC. I think he would make this team more cohesive and most of all more competative. Denver is in turmoil with Tebow and the suspensions, why would you go there right now?? Oh well, KC will move on and I hope KC does the right thing.

    13. Ok I am sick and tired of this front office not taking advantage of our salary cap room. First we are out of the Peyton Manning picture, we know we need OL help, Carl Nicks is gone, Brandon Carr is a goner, who is our back up QB, and we need another pass rusher. I am sick of this ownership taking advantage of our fan base. We have been there to support this team for decades, and sold out how many games? GET US PLAYERS SO WE CAN GO TO A SUPER BOWL ALREADY!! It has been too long. Oh and when I say get some players, it is plural, not just one semi big name Clark.
