With their 2nd round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected guard Jeff Allen from the University of Illinois.
Allen (6’4″, 305) was a three-year starter for the Illini, closing out his career with 47 consecutive starts – nine at right tackle, 38 at left tackle. For his efforts, Allen was named an All-Big Ten second team selection after both his junior and senior seasons.
Allen was productive and durable on the college level. He is a serviceable prospect with the ability to line up at a number of positions on the offensive line and has starting potential in the NFL.

We need to better our OL, but will he help us to do that? The NFL.com review predicted he would be a 5th or 6th round pick, someone who would lend depth to an OL by being a good back-up. They said he has some proficiency at all OL positions except center, but not outstanding talent at any one of them. I hope we know something they don’t.

I like this pick a great deal. I heard that he was a late 2nd to early 3rd round grade. He started 37 straight games at LT and was the offensive team captain for his final two years. He has a nasty side and will probably take Lija’s spot at LG this year. He will be the next Brian Waters and I will take that any day!
