Deadline Passes for Chiefs to Reach Deal with Bowe

[Kansas City.com] The 3 p.m. deadline for NFL teams to sign players currently not under contract has passed and the Chiefs did not reach an agreement on a long-term deal with wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

This means Bowe will play this season for a one-year franchise tender of about $9.4 million and the Chiefs won’t be able to sign him to a long-term contract until after the season. The Chiefs could elect to use the franchise tag on Bowe again following this season, but it would cost the club more money. If the Chiefs don’t offer Bowe a franchise tender after the season, he would become a free agent.

Bowe has yet to sign his franchise tender and was absent at the Chiefs’ offseason workouts and minicamp. But he has said he will arrive on time at training camp, which starts July 27 in St. Joseph.
