Trainers helped the reserve safety exit the field midway through Saturday’s training camp practice at Missouri Western State University. McCarthy was eventually carted into the locker room.

Signing with the Chiefs as a free agent from Denver this offseason, McCarthy is the team’s second player to land on injured reserve in 2012. Martin Rucker previously suffered a season-ending knee injury during an offseason practice in June.
