The Chiefs have had a mixed start to their preseason preparations, beating Arizona in their opener before losing on the road in St. Louis to the Rams. This Friday they’ll host the Seattle Seahawks – what can we expect to see?

As the preseason wears on, we’re starting to see the starters get more time.

Matt Cassell completed 13-of-18 passes for 142 yards in the loss to the Rams and should play at least a full half versus the Seahawks.

At running back, Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis rushed a combined eight times for 28 yards, but both should see more carries in third third game. Charles could use all the reps he could get after sitting out a majority of last season.

The worrying thing right now for the Chiefs is how poor they looked defensively, especially against a St. Louis offense that isn’t exactly prolific. They allowed Sam Bradford to complete 6-of-9 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while Steven Jackson had seven carries for 49 yards. Hardly a ringing endorsement for that Kansas City starting defense.

Thankfully this is still only the preseason and the Chiefs have plenty of time to figure out what went wrong, address it, and fix it in time for the regular season.

The football odds for Friday game reveal that this should be a close game. The line currently sees the Seahawks favored by a single point on the road. That can probably be explained by the fact Seattle still hasn’t decided on a starting quarterback and therefore will have both Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn playing a bunch.

Nonetheless, we think the Kansas City Chiefs are the right side with your NFL picks in this third week of preseason play. They looked good at home to Arizona in their opener and now that Cassell, Charles, Hillis and Bowe will get more time, things should only improve from here.
