The last time the Green Bay Packers faced the Kansas City Chiefs was in Week 15 last season and the Chiefs ended the Packers perfect season. Forgive the Packers if they aren’t exactly out for revenge in Week 4 of the preseason given that the contest really doesn’t mean much.
This week, both teams will wrap-up their preseasons with the Chiefs making the end-of-summer visit to Lambeau Field.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Green Bay Packers
Betting Line: Packers -1.5
The Packers first-string offense hasn’t looked particularly crisp this preseason as tight end Jermichael Finley has yet to suit up for the exhibition games while top wideout Greg Jennings has been plagued by concussion symptoms. It’s unlikely that head coach Mike McCarthy risks injuries with any of these players – including quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Kansas City Chiefs could probably use the last exhibition game to make a better impression than they have so far, but considering that most sportsbooks are only favoring the Packers by a slight margin, it looks as if NFL odds makers are giving the Kansas City Chiefs a shot in this game. The Chiefs have been embarrassed over the last two weeks, being outscored 75-31 by the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams, and their only preseason win came against the inept Arizona Cardinals.
The difference between the two teams here is that the Packers are a veteran team and a Super Bowl contender. They know their identity very well and don’t need to prove anything in an exhibition game. Meanwhile, the Chiefs should put up a stronger effort as they are trying to rebound from an awful season last year and are in transition. Their offense is under the guide of new coordinator Brian Daboll and so far, it has struggled. The Chiefs would be wise to take advantage of every snap they can get to gather some momentum before the regular season starts.
