The Kansas City Chiefs are favored by a point on the NFL odds this week when they take on the Oakland Raiders. Normally speaking, that’s a sign that the Chiefs would be the more consistent team with fewer questions than answers, but going into Week 8 this week, Head Coach Romeo Crennel knows that this is a potential turning point in his team’s season.

At just 1-5 and 0-3 here at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs badly need a spark. They used QB Brady Quinn two weeks ago before their bye week to start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but that was out of necessity, knowing that QB Matt Cassel had suffered a concussion the prior week. Quinn was terrible, going just 22-of-38 for 180 yards and two picks. The offense didn’t score a touchdown in the 38-10 romp of a loss at Raymond James Stadium.

Alas, Cassel is healthy once again, but it appears as though his time as a starter is said and done with. Quinn has been named the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, and this is going to be his first chance since he was with the Cleveland Browns in 2009 to strut his stuff as a full-timer. Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time that Quinn was quarterbacking under Crennel, as the two were joined at the hip with the Browns as well.

The bad news for Quinn is that he is going against an Oakland defense that is starting to play better ball in the secondary. Sure, there were two big games against QB Ben Roethlisberger and QB Peyton Manning, but take those out, and the Raiders are allowing just 215.3 passing yards and 1.0 touchdown passes per game allowed. If those are the numbers that Quinn ends up putting up this weekend, the Chiefs are going to be dropping further out of the playoff picture when push comes to shove.
