[Kansas City.com] The Chiefs announced today that Brad Childress has joined the team’s coaching staff to serve as its spread game analyst/special projects, reuniting him with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
Childress was Reid’s offensive coordinator and/or quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 through 2005. He then left to become the head coach for the Minnesota Vikings, where he had a 39-35 record and won two NFC Central championships.
He was fired by the Vikings after 4 1/2 seasons.
Childress was out of football in 2011 and returned last season as offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
Reid wanted to hire Childress when he first joined the Chiefs in January but Childress remained under contract to the Browns. Only recently did the Browns, who also have a new coaching staff, agree to let Childress out of his contract and join Reid’s staff.
